NewsBank Relaunches NewsLibrary.com
NewsBank, Inc. has announced the relaunch of its NewsLibrary news archive (http://www.newslibrary.com), which offers complete archives for over 260 individual newspapers and other news sources, with nearly 100 million news articles, from the 1970s to the present. The company says that some are not available elsewhere on the Web.Based on customer feedback, the company implemented a new interface design and added many search improvements. Among the new features, customers can now: - Easily search all sources at once
- Save frequently used searches to a Tracked Searches folder
- Search by region, state, or custom groups of sources
NewsLibrary.com, which is designed for individuals and small business users, has grown quickly from about 80 titles when NewsBank purchased it from MediaStream (a Knight Ridder company) in early 2001 to about 269 with an additional 50 titles ready for loading. (For background information, see the NewsBreak about the acquisition: http://newsbreaks.infotoday.com/nbreader.asp?ArticleID=17662.) The company plans to add a push component to the service in 2004. NewsLibrary.com is available by subscription, with a number of options for bundled article packages, or as a pay-per-view service at $3.50 an article. NewsBank also offers a library product called America's Newspapers, which also has been enhanced with the new interface, and is customizable for each customer. The NewsBank America's Newspapers offers 500 U.S. titles and 250 international titles. A company spokesperson said, "There is no other place to go that is so optimized for news research."
