EasyBib Launches Citations Catalog
EasyBib introduced Publicly Indexed Bibliographies, a catalog of user citations that allows writers to access others’ bibliography resources. When they save their projects, users now have the option to make their citations public on EasyBib’s database. By selecting a subject area such as literature, history, engineering, or biology to organize their citations, users can help EasyBib recommend sources based on their bibliographies.Recommendations will become more relevant as users add more sources to their bibliographies and as more users make their bibliographies public. “The researchers who access these publicly indexed citations will find a gold mine of information that they can use in their own papers,” says Neal Taparia, EasyBib’s co-founder and CEO. Data Workshop Posts Agenda
Data Infrastructure: The Importance of Quality and Integrity, a workshop co-sponsored by the National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS) and CENDI to be held Nov. 20, 2014, now has a preliminary agenda. Online registration is open to anyone who creates, manages, or uses scientific data, and discussions will center on the technical, financial, political, social, and cultural influences to consider when assessing data’s quality and integrity.NFAIS (of which Information Today, Inc. is a proud member) and CENDI (which serves the federal information community) announced that Marcia McNutt, the editor-in-chief of Science magazine, will be the workshop’s keynote speaker. Thomson Reuters and CCC Simplify OA Workflows
The Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters partnered with Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) to integrate CCC’s RightsLink for Open Access into Thomson Reuters’ ScholarOne Manuscripts journal and peer review tool for scholarly publishers and societies. Their collaboration streamlines open access (OA) workflows by giving authors a secure, end-to-end solution for OA article submission, peer review, and article processing charge (APC) management.“The proliferation of Open Access journals requires solution providers to work together to deliver streamlined APC solutions for authors and publishing staff without interrupting editorial workflows,” says Bill Neuman, VP of products at CCC. With ScholarOne Manuscripts, scholarly publishers and societies can access submission, correspondence, review, reporting, and user management for OA articles from one platform. IGI Global Releases New Topic Collection
IGI Global rolled out its Environmental Sustainability topic collection, which is composed of 10 titles published in 2013 and 2014. Intota Assessment Streamlines Collection Analysis
ProQuest updated its Intota Assessment data analysis tool with title-linking functionality that helps academic libraries manage their collections while using the Resources for College Libraries (RCL) list. Automated title linking simplifies the process of matching RCL’s recommendations to current holdings by allowing libraries to compare their collection by subject area to RCL’s core titles to determine matches to current holdings and identify alternative formats in their collections or in the market.The recommendations and deselection reports in Intota Assessment are enhanced with bibliographic data and enriched metadata from Books in Print so libraries have a more comprehensive view of their collections and can make more informed acquisition and deselection decisions. Brill’s Humanities Journal Opens for Submissions
Brill Open Humanities is now ready for submissions. This international open access (OA) journal from Brill is designed as a broad, dedicated publication platform for all branches of the humanities field, including archaeology, art and architecture, classical studies, gender studies, language and linguistics, literature studies, philosophy, and theology.Rens Bod, a professor of computational and digital humanities at the University of Amsterdam, is the editor-in-chief, and he oversees the double-blind peer-review process for the journal. Accepted articles will be published in 4–6 weeks. Authors may include critical supplementary materials such as research data and audio/video files. Source: Brill
Credo Announces Compliance with NISO Recommendations
Credo agreed to comply with the NISO (National Information Standards Organization) Open Discovery Initiative (ODI). It is the first content provider to conform to and endorse NISO’s recommendations for promoting transparency in discovery.To show its commitment, Credo makes all of its relevant content available to discovery service providers as full text and without bias so that content is treated equally in each discovery service. Spaceflight Journal Blasts Off
Nature Publishing Group (NPG) and Arizona State University’s Biodesign Institute announced a new open access (OA) journal, npj Microgravity, which will accept submissions in late October. It is part of the Nature Partner Journals (npj) series of online, OA journals published in collaboration with international partners.npj Microgravity will contain research that enables space exploration and that is enabled by spaceflight, as well as research using ground-based models of spaceflight. Cheryl A. Nickerson, associate professor for life sciences at the Center for Infectious Diseases and Vaccinology at the Biodesign Institute, will serve as editor-in-chief. “For over fifty years, humanity’s imagination has been captured by what lies beyond our own small planet. The research undertaken into space exploration has even led to technological advances which affect our everyday life. And for the first time, scientists looking to publish on this topic will have the option of choosing a high quality, dedicated journal which is open to all,” says Martin Delahunty, NPG’s global head of partnership journals.
