Libraries Unlimited and IASL Team Up for Book Series
Libraries Unlimited, part of ABC-CLIO, LLC, partnered with IASL (International Association of School Librarianship) to launch a book series that will contribute to the development of global school librarianship. School librarians will able to write about trends and issues and report on their research, as well as read about others’ experiences. IASL members will gain a wider audience by being able to reach Libraries Unlimited’s international readers.The first title in the new series will focus on collaboration. Marcia A. Mardis, associate professor at Florida State University’s College of Communication & Information, will serve as the book’s editor. Source: Libraries Unlimited
New Workshop Explores Quality and Integrity of Data
National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS) and CENDI announced that they will co-sponsor a workshop on Nov. 20, 2014. Its theme will be Data Infrastructure: The Importance of Quality and Integrity, and the National Technical Information Service (NTIS) will host the event at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).This workshop is designed to benefit anyone who creates, manages, or uses scientific data. Discussions will center on the technical, financial, political, social, and cultural influences to consider when assessing data’s quality and integrity. NFAIS (of which Information Today, Inc. is a proud member) and CENDI (which serves the federal information community) are currently confirming the speaker list and completing the agenda. GPO Designates First Digital-Only FDLP Member
Sitting Bull College Library became the first digital-only member of the U.S. Government Printing Office’s (GPO) Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP). The library will not receive print materials from the GPO. Instead, it will develop an online government information collection.By joining the FDLP, Sitting Bull College Library will be able to provide its patrons with the GPO’s published information on all three branches of the federal government. The college’s students, faculty, and staff; the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation community; and the people in North Dakota and South Dakota all use the library to meet their information needs. WorldCat Adds Holdings From China
The Shanghai Library contributed 2 million holdings to WorldCat—including about 770,000 unique bibliographic records—making the library’s collection available worldwide. The records are for books and journals published between 1911 and 2013.“The leadership of Shanghai Library has a bold global vision,” says Andrew H. Wang, VP of OCLC Asia Pacific. “The addition of Shanghai Library’s holdings and unique records enriches coverage of the Chinese collection in WorldCat for researchers everywhere.” As the largest public library in China and one of the largest libraries in the world, the Shanghai Library has more than 53 million volumes of Chinese literature and historical documents. SAGE Plans Journal for Asian and Pacific Islander Healthcare
SAGE Publications announced Asian/Pacific Island Nursing (APN), its new open access (OA) journal. The peer-reviewed, quarterly offering launches in 2015. It will be the only scholarly publication dedicated exclusively to Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander healthcare.APN is designed to unify nursing science and behavioral and social science healthcare providers. It will focus on topics such as methods, interventions, instrumentation, and educational techniques that are unique to the Asian and Pacific Islander groups. Source: SAGE Publications
Thomson Reuters Connects With DataCite for Worldwide Discovery
The Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters is collaborating with DataCite to promote research dataset discovery using the Data Citation Index, Thomson Reuters’ single-point solution for accessing datasets from multidisciplinary, global repositories.The Data Citation Index will be connected to repositories that work with DataCite so that the content made citable by DataCite is discoverable worldwide, correctly attributed, and reusable by other researchers. The collaboration also furthers DataCite’s mission to make research data acceptable as citable contributions to scholarship. “With global research output rapidly increasing and citable datasets becoming legitimate contributions to the scholarly record, it is imperative that researchers around the globe can efficiently access, cite and measure data-intensive research,” says Adam Farquhar, DataCite’s president. Adam Matthew Finishes Its World War I Archive
Adam Matthew completed its First World War portal with the release of the final section, Visual Perspectives and Narratives. Sources for the portal, which is also composed of the Personal Experiences and Propaganda and Recruitment sections, come from the holdings of the U.K.’s IWM (Imperial War Museums).Primary sources in the final section include international official and personal photographs, manuscripts, artwork, and films on themes such as the role of women, the British home front, and food and rationing. EBSCO Health Now Offers Oncology Resources
EBSCO Health and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) signed an agreement that allows information from NCCN to be summarized and made available through DynaMed, EBSCO Health’s clinical reference tool. This partnership gives healthcare professionals access to the latest and most complete oncology guidelines.DynaMed will use the NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines) as a reference for updating its oncology topics, include citations of NCCN content, and show NCCN Categories of Evidence and Consensus.
