ISYS Releases New Document Filters 2010
ISYS Search Software announced the release of ISYS Document Filters 2010, the new version of the company’s solution for text extraction, printing, and high-definition viewing. Document Filters go deeper than the application layer that connectors support, and actually pull through the text and metadata that drive analytics.ISYS Document Filters provide OEMs, ISVs, and enterprises with a key component for driving text analytics, e-discovery, email archiving, data loss prevention and other content processing systems. With the release of ISYS Document Filters 2010, ISYS is the only company actively innovating and investing in an end-to-end filter solution. Several industry leaders and emerging companies have recently selected ISYS Document Filters for their applications, including Sybase, TCDI, and Janya. These partners join a long list of OEM search customers that include EMC, HP, Autodesk, Reveal, Data Global, and Bridgeline Digital. These companies have selected ISYS, in part, for its ability to go deeper than the base connector level, and extract and render file contents for deep inspection, analysis, and surveillance of information. The addition of printing and high-definition viewing was developed completely by the ISYS R&D team. The company says these new capabilities are the most significant pieces of IP it has developed since the original release of ISYS Document Filters in March 2009 (formerly known as ISYS File Readers). Full-Text Doctoral Dissertations on Middle East and Islamic Studies Available Free
The British Library’s partnership project with the Chicago-based Center for Research Libraries (CRL) has now released digitized copies of 400 U.K. Ph.D. theses on Middle Eastern and Islamic studies. The project is operated through the EThOS electronic thesis service, which the British Library runs in partnership with JISC and the U.K. Higher Education sector. The theses comprise U.K. postgraduate research into politics, culture, and society in the Islamic world. They can now be downloaded for free via the British Library’s EThOS (Electronic Theses Online) service. Launched in 2008, EThOS is a one-stop shop for U.K. Ph.D.s. It has seen demand for theses increase tenfold as the provision of digitized copies replaced provision via microfilm and paper copies. As more universities move to electronic formats, the service is also providing access to an increasing number of “born digital” theses. EThOS is a partnership between the British Library, the Higher Education sector, and JISC, and it supplies electronic versions of theses published by 111 U.K. universities. The digitization of paper theses is funded by the partner universities and the service administered by the British Library. More than 38,000 theses have now been digitized and are available free for instant download. Where a thesis has not previously been digitized, delivery usually takes about 30 days. CRL is a consortium of some 250 research libraries in the U.S. and Canada. For more than half a century, dissertations and theses from universities outside North America have been a focus of CRL’s collecting activities Source: British Library
Ingram to Handle All Elements of Springer’s U.S. Distribution
Starting in 1Q 2011, Ingram Content Group will fully manage warehousing, fulfillment, and print on demand for Springer using a new model. Ingram will hold Springer’s entire U.S. inventory and, as it sells down, Ingram will transition titles to print on demand when it makes economic sense. All fulfillment will come through Ingram.“Working with Ingram is part of our continued and ambitious move to focusing on what we do best: providing high quality information for the scientific, medical, and professional communities. This agreement allows us to better serve our users and readers by combining physical and digital book distribution, thereby shortening the time to market,” said Eric Schmitt, executive vice president of customer service, fulfillment, logistics at Springer. As the need to invest in the future of content in its many forms becomes increasingly important, publishers are facing resource decisions unlike any before. They are exploring new ways to operate and shift investments once used for the cost of warehousing and returns to developing the most innovative content. By strategically combining traditional print publishing with virtual inventory and print on demand, Springer can concentrate its energy and resources on the future success of its company while assuring its authors and readers that its high-quality content will always be widely available, also in print. “At Ingram, we are reinventing the traditional publishing business model with forward-thinking publishers like Springer,” said David “Skip” Prichard, president & CEO, Ingram Content Group. “Ingram has continued to invest in the newest print-on-demand technologies, physical and digital distribution and worldwide market reach, so publishers can focus their attention on content creation, the foundation of their business.” Prichard continued, “We look forward to working with Springer on the development of an integrated distribution model and helping their content reach more readers in more formats.” Source: Ingram Content Group
