Edinburgh University Press to Launch Comprehensive Archive
In 2011 the Edinburgh University Press (EUP) Journals Online site will include the EUP Archive, the result of an extensive project to digitize back issues. The archive will cover more than 4,000 articles from more than 370 issues of 14 journals. The print equivalent would number more than 40,000 pages from more than 165 volumes. Coverage extends from 1936 to 1999.The following titles are included in the archive: - Architectural Heritage (1990 to 1999, Vols. 1–10)

IEEE Launches eLearning Library With Short Online Courses
IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional association for the advancement of technology, announced the launch of the IEEE eLearning Library. The IEEE eLearning Library is composed of nearly 200 short, online courses in core and emerging technologies. Each course was developed and peer-reviewed by subject experts and awards continuing education units (CEU) or professional development hours (PDH) upon successful completion.IEEE eLearning Library courses can be viewed in the IEEE Xplore digital library and accessed via the IEEE Learning Management System (LMS). The IEEE LMS allows users to keep track of their courses and progress, and then print earned continuing education certificates. Users can choose between introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels for many subjects, learn on their own schedule, and resume a course where they left off at any time. Courses range from one to three hours in length and include notes, a glossary of terms, and a post-test. Topics range from smart grid and biometrics to telecommunications and green engineering. IEEE offers flexible subscriptions for any size organization, including academic consortia. ISYS Releases New Document Filters 2010
ISYS Search Software announced the release of ISYS Document Filters 2010, the new version of the company’s solution for text extraction, printing, and high-definition viewing. Full-Text Doctoral Dissertations on Middle East and Islamic Studies Available Free
The British Library’s partnership project with the Chicago-based Center for Research Libraries (CRL) has now released digitized copies of 400 U.K. Ph.D. theses on Middle Eastern and Islamic studies. The project is operated through the EThOS electronic thesis service, which the British Library runs in partnership with JISC and the U.K. Higher Education sector.The theses comprise U.K. postgraduate research into politics, culture, and society in the Islamic world. They can now be downloaded for free via the British Library’s EThOS (Electronic Theses Online) service. Launched in 2008, EThOS is a one-stop shop for U.K. Ph.D.s. It has seen demand for theses increase tenfold as the provision of digitized copies replaced provision via microfilm and paper copies. As more universities move to electronic formats, the service is also providing access to an increasing number of “born digital” theses. EThOS is a partnership between the British Library, the Higher Education sector, and JISC, and it supplies electronic versions of theses published by 111 U.K. universities. The digitization of paper theses is funded by the partner universities and the service administered by the British Library. More than 38,000 theses have now been digitized and are available free for instant download. Where a thesis has not previously been digitized, delivery usually takes about 30 days. CRL is a consortium of some 250 research libraries in the U.S. and Canada. Ingram to Handle All Elements of Springer’s U.S. Distribution
Starting in 1Q 2011, Ingram Content Group will fully manage warehousing, fulfillment, and print on demand for Springer using a new model. Ingram will hold Springer’s entire U.S. inventory and, as it sells down, Ingram will transition titles to print on demand when it makes economic sense. All fulfillment will come through Ingram.“Working with Ingram is part of our continued and ambitious move to focusing on what we do best: providing high quality information for the scientific, medical, and professional communities. Serials Solutions Enhances Its Family of 360 Services
Serials Solutions, a business unit of ProQuest LLC, announced that it has made significant enhancements to its family of 360 Services for discovery, enabling librarians worldwide to activate a wide variety of new patron-facing tools and localization capabilities. The enhancements—which include language selection features, new bibliographic citation management options, new sorting functions for Chinese and Korean languages, custom text options, and additional language support—enable librarians to enrich their library patrons’ research experiences and provide them with additional avenues of resource discovery.The following enhancements are available in the 360 Services—360 Core E-Journal Portal A-to-Z list, 360 Link OpenURL link resolver, 360 Search federated search services—and the Serials Solutions Client Center: - New administration console organization for 360 Core E-Journal Portal and 360 Link: Librarians now have the ability to quickly configure 360 Core E-Journal Portal and 360 Link to meet their patron-specific needs without requiring technical support.
- New bibliographic citation management options: Patrons using 360 Link will now be able to save and share research bibliographies via RefWorks, EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager, and additional bibliographic citation management options.
- Expanded language support: Librarians can offer patrons language support across 14 new languages within the 360 Core E-Journal Portal and 360 Link interfaces, and three new languages for 360 Search—bringing the total to 22 languages supported across all of the 360 Services.
- “On-the-fly” language selection: Librarians can now enable patrons to change languages “on-the-fly” in the 360 Core E-Journal Portal and 360 Link interfaces.
- New Chinese and Korean sorting capabilities: Patrons can discover resources through new Chinese (Pinyin, Zhuyin, Stroke) and Korean character sorting options, supplementing the Japanese option already available in the 360 Core E-Journal Portal.
- New custom text options for 360 Core E-Journal Portal and 360 Link interfaces: Librarians now have the ability to customize any piece of text displayed within the 360 Core E-Journal Portal and 360 Link interfaces, across any language, to make resource discovery easier for their patrons.
