CCC Launches Ozmo for Online Content Licensing
Copyright Clearance Center (CCC; www.copyright.com) has announced the beta launch of Ozmo (www.ozmo.com), a web-based service that makes it easy for independent content creators to license the use of their work for commercial purposes and for content users to tap into the user-generated content found online. Ozmo puts artists and writers in control; they select their license terms and set the price for the use of their content. Then, CCC puts its 3 decades of licensing expertise to work. CCC handles the entire licensing process, and all payments go through Amazon’s Flexible Payment Service when a license is purchased. With Ozmo, buyers know instantly that they have the right to use the content and sellers know how their content is being used.There are no setup fees with Ozmo, and content creators can license as much content as they want. Payment is collected from the buyer when the rights are purchased. Ozmo even helps sellers track and manage sales and buying trends. Ozmo supports the Creative Commons CC+ protocol for bridging the gap between commercial and noncommercial licensing. Content creators can apply the Creative Commons link for noncommercial use and the Ozmo link for commercial use. Buyers, such as design firms, publishers, bloggers, and other journalists, who want to tap in to the fresh content available through Ozmo can do so by searching the Ozmo website or clicking on the Ozmo link wherever they find it online. FIZ Karlsruhe Improves FIZ AutoDoc System
FIZ Karlsruhe has upgraded its automated full text brokerage system FIZ AutoDoc (www.fiz-karlsruhe.de/fiz_autodoc.html) to a professional workflow management system. After relaunch it is fully capable of being integrated into administrative software environments thus reducing administrative and billing efforts to a minimum. FIZ Karlsruhe is demonstrating the new system at the Online Information exhibition in London, Dec. 2–4, 2008.The redesigned system offers customers enlarged access to scientific publications, research reports, patent documents, and company information as well as better and clearly structured assistance for navigation and administration. FIZ AutoDoc can be accessed through a web portal, corporate intranets, or, after a search, in STN International’s databases via the STN Full-Text Solution. New partnerships extend the delivery portfolio: the American Chemical Society (ACS) supplies ACS journal articles dating from 1996 to present. The ETH Zürich, the Elsevier publishing group, and Thieme Verlag with its eFirst publications add to the online ordering of scientific literature from all over the world. Thanks to its user-friendly DRM protection, the new partner Reprints Desk, Inc. allows for the opening of DRM-protected PDF documents without additional plug-ins. User guidance such as ISSN detection and "best match" lists provide easy access to the full-text documents. The interactive order forms of FIZ AutoDoc support various cost center assignment options, for example, customer specific statistics and internal billing. PDF has been re-established as the default delivery format to provide more comfortable procurement. For delivery in PDF, the format "IMMEDIATE" offers a new, accelerated access via publishers. FIZ Karlsruhe has also redesigned and restructured the website of its online service STN International (www.stn-international.com). The service is jointly operated by FIZ Karlsruhe and Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS). Thomson Reuters to Release Thomson Innovation 2.0
The Scientific business of Thomson Reuters (www.thomsonreuters.com) announced the forthcoming release of Thomson Innovation 2.0 (www.thomsoninnovation.com), the next generation of the company’s intellectual property (IP) research and analysis solution, with a preview of new content and functionality at Online Information 2008 in London. The product will be available publicly Dec. 15, 2008.The ThemeScape landscape visualization tool enables an at-a-glance view of search results including first-level patent data, value-added patent information from Derwent World Patents Index (DWPI), and scientific literature (comprising Web of Science, Current Contents Connect, Inspec, and ISI Proceedings). With the consistency of language used in DWPI’s all-English abstracts, the quality of the resulting analysis is far superior to that from a landscape map created with first-level patent data. Other enhancements in the release include the following: - English translations of the titles, abstracts, and all claims for Chinese utility models and Chinese applications, both dating from 2007 to the present
- A clustering tool that automatically categorizes patent documents through the linguistic analysis of text found in user-selected fields and establishes document relationships that otherwise would take hours, if not days, to complete
- Tracking functionality that enables the centralized control of managing research done across an organization, including reporting options for client chargebacks and cost allocation

Free Resource—Global Library of Women’s Medicine
The Global Library of Women’s Medicine has launched online and is freely available in beta at www.glowm.com. More than 650 world experts have provided a definitive resource on the latest therapeutic options in women’s medicine for doctors as well as for women who are concerned about their health. Medical professionals who register have access to additional resources.The Global Library of Women’s Medicine is a unique web library incorporating a range of detailed clinical information across the whole field of women’s medicine. It consists of 442 main chapters and 53 supplementary chapters, supported by more than 40,000 references, which will be kept permanently up-to-date. The chapters have been written by more than 650 specialists and will reflect some of the very best worldwide opinion. The website has been developed from the six-volume, encyclopedic textbook Gynecology & Obstetrics, which was first published in 1934 and has been edited for the last 30 years by professor John J. Sciarra. The Global Library of Women’s Medicine is primarily designed for the medical profession; however, most of the information will also be accessible by anyone who wants to try and understand more about the therapeutic options available to women. In addition, there are features freely available to registered users that are aimed at medical professionals, including surgical videos, specialist color atlases of visual medicine, comprehensive guidance to laboratory tests and the significance of their results, and even an option to provide doctors with selected patient information handouts. The Global Library of Women’s Medicine will support doctors and other health professionals in their care of women. As an open access resource, it is hoped it may also be of real value to doctors and others in parts of the developing world where gaining access to current clinical information has always been challenging. All the expert authors and editors of The Global Library of Women’s Medicine have generously made their contributions without any form of financial remuneration—and the British publishers have originated, developed, and implemented the site entirely from their own funds—in order to support this significant global initiative, which, it is hoped, may make some contribution to the ongoing efforts to improve women’s healthcare around the world. Scopus to Expand Arts & Humanities Coverage
Elsevier (www.elsevier.com) announced that Scopus (www.info.scopus.com), its abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature, will be nearly doubling its Arts & Humanities (A&H) titles. Access to the new journals will be available to users in April 2009. Currently, the Scopus database contains 1,600 titles in A&H and related fields.Many countries will be better represented as a result of these added titles and researchers will have enhanced access to international A&H content. Journal subjects include literature and literary theory (30% of new titles), general arts and humanities (22%), history (17%), and visual/performing arts (16%), among others. Scopus is known as a holistic cross-disciplinary database with the broadest coverage in Science, Technology, Medicine, Social Sciences, and soon also in the Arts & Humanities. Source: Elsevier
Congressional Quarterly Acquires Voxant’s Broadcast Transcripts Assets
Congressional Quarterly, Inc. The acquired transcripts media assets offer verbatim transcripts of programming that appears on CNN, FOX News, MSNBC, and other leading broadcast and cable news shows. The service also produces and distributes select verbatim transcripts of corporate earnings and shareholder relations events and calls.As part of the transaction, CQ is acquiring long-term distribution agreements to provide verbatim newsmaker transcripts to content providers, including the following: The Associated Press, LexisNexis, Dow Jones, Thomson Reuters, FT Profile, Infonautics, Dialog, Bloomberg, NewsEdge, and Westlaw. CQ’s product line includes: CQ Weekly, CQ Today, CQ.com, CQ Homeland Security, CQ Budget Tracker, CQ HealthBeat, CQ MoneyLine, CQ Politics, and Governing magazine.
