Factiva Adds Agency Analytics Tool to Factiva Insight

Dow Jones & Co. (www.dowjones.com) announced the availability of Factiva Insight: Agency Analytics (www.factivainsight.com/agency), a Web-based tool that allows professional researchers in public relations agencies and corporate communications departments to conduct media measurement on demand across premium news sources, Web sites, blogs, and message boards.

Using the power of the Factiva text-mining platform, the tool streamlines the process of conducting media measurement while freeing researchers from the time-consuming task of gathering information and creating visual reports. They can now spend more time on higher-value analysis that enables them to deliver strategic findings to provide differentiated executive briefs and client pitches.

In addition, Factiva Insight: Agency Analytics was designed to work the way busy public relations agencies and communications departments work. It offers an easy-to-use interface designed to handle multiple projects for multiple clients or groups. The charts created by Factiva Insight: Agency Analytics are ready for use in a variety of outputs, including PDF documents, Microsoft Office applications, or Web sites, and they are emailed to the client in a zipped file.

OCLC Enhances CONTENTdm

OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc. (OCLC) has added new features and functionality to CONTENTdm (www.oclc.org/contentdm) to make it easy for libraries to manage and access documents in PDF and integrate digital collection growth into their current cataloging workflows. OCLC’s CONTENTdm software offers a complete set of tools to store, manage, and deliver digital collections such as historical documents, photos, newspapers, audio, and video on the Web.

With CONTENTdm 4.3, libraries can more easily manage PDF files. Multiple-page PDFs can be automatically converted to compound objects with searchable full text, which allows users to retrieve page-level search results within a PDF. Full-text extraction and generation of thumbnail images from the PDF happen automatically. End users can also select any subset of pages from the PDF to print or save, making it easy to get just the information they need.

The new CONTENTdm release also supports the OCLC Connexion digital import feature which allows catalogers using the Connexion client to add digital items to CONTENTdm collections during the Connexion cataloging process. This new feature streamlines digital collection creation by integrating it with standard cataloging workflows.

CONTENTdm is used by hundreds of institutions worldwide to manage thousands of digital collections. To see how some of these institutions are using CONTENTdm, visit www.contentdm.com/customers.

Vivísimo Brings Social Search to the Enterprise

Vivísimo, Inc. (www.vivisimo.com) has introduced social search for the enterprise with the announcement of its new Vivísimo Velocity 6.0 enterprise search platform, which will be available within 45 days. Velocity 6.0 lets users save, share, and take action on search results to foster collaboration and new levels of communication within the organization.

Velocity 6.0 harnesses the human knowledge about content resident in an organization with social tagging by giving end users the ability to vote on or rate search results using a numerical scale. This combined insight into the usefulness of information can be used to adjust relevancy of results in real time. Furthermore, Velocity 6.0 empowers users to tag search results with keywords, providing a more efficient and faster search experience.

Velocity 6.0 also allows users to add their own knowledge about information found via search directly into the search result itself in the form of free-text annotation. Rather than sending an email with a file attachment to colleagues with commentary about a document, users can have a dialogue about content right within the search interface. And social bookmarking within Velocity 6.0 allows users to save search results into virtual folders for future reference to use or to share with others, such as a project team. Velocity 6.0 also provides a visual map or executive dashboard of hot topics within groups, departments, or across the entire enterprise.

Based on a service-oriented architecture that enables rapid deployment, the company said that Vivísimo Velocity can be up and running in just weeks. Vivísimo serves its global client base through headquarters in Pittsburgh and Paris as well as partners throughout the world.
