Cuadra Partners with Cognition Technologies
Cuadra Associates, Inc. (www.cuadra.com) and Cognition Technologies, Inc. (www.cognition.com) announced the signing of a marketing partnership agreement whereby Cuadra will promote Cognition’s linguistic meaning-based search software, CognitionSearch, to the U.S. and international library markets. The announcement is being made in conjunction with the two companies’ joint presence at the annual meeting of SLA in Denver from June 3 to 5, 2007.The marketing partnership agreement calls for Cuadra Associates to actively promote and introduce CognitionSearch to its existing and prospective customers. Cognition Technologies will provide training, sales support, and postsales implementation and account management. Cuadra is also considering ways to integrate CognitionSearch with its STAR platform. The patented linguistic, meaning-based search technology in CognitionSearch is designed to increase the precision and recall of search results. Unlike traditional search technologies that don’t understand the meaning of query terms or results, CognitionSearch, based upon computational linguistic science, “teaches” computers the meanings of virtually all words, phrases, and concepts in the common English language. NewsGator Releases Update to FeedDemon
NewsGator Technologies, Inc. announced the availability of FeedDemon 2.5, an RSS reader for Windows. This latest version taps into the sharing and synchronizing capabilities of the NewsGator Online platform and offers features such as offline reading, secure video playing, and configurable desktop alerts. FeedDemon 2.5 is available for $29.95 at www.newsgator.com.Building on the 2.0 and 2.1 releases in 2006, FeedDemon 2.5 now works even better with the NewsGator Online platform. Individuals can synchronize and share their news bins by copying a post or drag-and-dropping a hyperlink from an external browser, essentially creating their own newsfeed that they can then share with friends or colleagues. The news bins synchronize with NewsGator’s enterprise solutions, NewsGator Enterprise Server and NewsGator Enterprise On-Demand, so that users can make enterprise Clippings using FeedDemon 2.5. Additionally, enhanced visibility allows users to see what the most popular topics are for both NewsGator as a whole and for their personal feeds. Now with a single click, users can find out the most popular topics of discussion on the Internet and can discover who in the blogosphere is linking to a specific post. The reading experience itself is also improved, as people can now download stories, links, and images to read on airplanes or in other instances when they can’t get online. Embedded videos from video portals such as YouTube now play easily and securely from within the newspaper view. Additionally, users can configure desktop alerts to notify them of new articles in only their most important feeds, while performance enhancements greatly increase the speed of feed delivery and add to the overall news reading experience. XanEdu Introduces Multimedia Content in Course Packs
XanEdu Custom Publishing (www.xanedu.com), part of National Archive Publishing Co. (NAPC; www.napubco.com), in partnership with Harvard Business School Publishing and Darden Business Publishing, will provide digital video supplements and other multimedia case content to college and university business faculty and programs. XanEdu said it pioneered completely digital course-pack solutions and is now the first to offer multimedia as a standard course-pack format.Beginning Aug. 1, 2007, a range of multimedia options will be available in XanEdu Digital and Digital Plus Print CoursePacks. Many of the most popular Harvard Business School cases can now include a video supplement, giving students access and insight into management and strategic and organizational challenges through interviews with CEOs and other key company footage. Interactive multimedia cases and simulations from Darden Business Publishing include stand-alone and supplementary materials. These products present real-world business situations through video interviews, text, animations, and individual and classroom exercises. XanEdu can convert Microsoft PowerPoint presentations into streaming video, giving students secure, view-only access to lectures and notes without having to buy software. A printed presentation can also be included in the Digital Plus Print format.
