Morningstar.com Library Edition Enhanced
Morningstar, Inc., a provider of independent investment research, has added several new features and improved others on Morningstar.com Library Edition, an online database created exclusively for libraries and their users. It now offers increased stock coverage, industry returns, improved help and education, and a new exchange-traded fund (ETF) screener. Morningstar.com Library Edition is based on Morningstar’s investment Web site, Morningstar.com, and offers proprietary stock and mutual fund analysis and financial data, screening tools, and portfolio-building features to public, corporate, and academic libraries.Recent enhancements to Morningstar.com Library Edition include the following: - Reports and Returns. This area includes both new and upgraded features. Investors are now able to view several types of industry returns over a variety of time periods, for both indexes and mutual funds. Returns are updated daily.
- Stock, Mutual Fund, and Exchange-Traded Fund Coverage. Investors now have access to analyst reports for nearly 2,000 stocks (a coverage increase of more than 200 additional stocks since January 2006), 2,000 mutual funds, and more than 150 ETFs.
- Stock and Mutual Fund Recommendations. Now investors can easily determine which stocks, mutual funds, and ETFs Morningstar’s analysts recommend. In the Screeners area on the home page, there are now links that take investors directly to Morningstar’s highest-rated stocks and fund analyst picks.
- ETF Screener. This new tool narrows the field of more than 500 ETFs to find those that meet specific criteria. Investors can screen ETFs by fund group, Morningstar category, expense ratio, fund family, and performance history and sort results five different ways.
- Help & Education. This area has been completely revamped. Help & Education now includes Investing Centers with in-depth guides. This section also includes a comprehensive new User’s Guide as well as a one-page Quick Guide that investors can print out for easy reference.
The Library Edition includes optional remote access that gives patrons 24/7 access to current stock and fund information. Features for librarians include complimentary training, a monthly enewsletter, and online usage tracking that shows how patrons use the site. Research Libraries Participate in ScienceDirect Ebooks Trial
Elsevier (www.elsevier.com) announced that more than 900 research libraries and corporations from all over the world are participating in the trial of ebooks on ScienceDirect. The trial will provide participating institutes with preliminary access to 500 of the 4,000 scientific and technical books that will be launched on ScienceDirect in 3Q 2007.Elsevier said that the ebooks program represents a major expansion to the reference works, handbooks, and book series already available on ScienceDirect. At launch, the program will comprise selected titles published from 1995 to the present day. The books will cover a wide range of scientific disciplines, including those published under the Pergamon and Academic Press imprints. Following the launch, about 50 newly published titles will be added to the ebooks list on ScienceDirect each month, offering researchers integration and linking between the latest online book and journal information. Ovid Partners with Springer Science+Business Media to Add Ebooks
Ovid Technologies (www.ovid.com), a part of Wolters Kluwer Health, announced that it has entered into a partnership agreement with Springer Science+Business Media (www.springer.com) to offer more than 800 electronic medical and health sciences books from Springer on its ebooks platform, Books@Ovid.The books will be available via an annual renewable subscription or as a one-time purchase, which provides the medical organization the right to own the book in perpetuity. Key titles coming to Books@Ovid include AJCC Cancer Staging Atlas, Medical Informatics, and Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, widely considered to be core resources in their respective disciplines. Content is expected to become available on the Books@Ovid platform beginning in 3Q. Books@Ovid combines premium content with search and discovery technology, including natural language searching. Since Books@Ovid is fully integrated with an institution’s e-resources, users can link directly to any other content resource referenced in a book. An expandable table of contents, back-of-the-book indexing, and recent platform enhancements simplify navigation. In addition, users always have access to a title’s most current edition. The addition of the Springer titles will more than double the total offerings currently on Books@Ovid.
