IBISWorld Introduces i-Expert
IBISWorld (http://www.ibisworld.com), a publisher of business intelligence research, introduced i-Expert, a new briefing service that provides a quick-read overview of business sectors designed for salespeople and other time-crunched professionals who need a fast online briefing about one of more than 200 top industries.The new business briefing and sales force tool presents key snapshots about a covered industry, including performance statistics, market segments, regional breakdowns, and bullet points on an industry's competitive and volatility environments. The i-Expert briefs are accessible online. A portion of the content in an i-Expert brief is presented in a Q&A format, enabling users to learn as they might through a one-on-one conversation with an industry expert. The Q&A format can also help a user prepare for a business meeting by offering questions. Thirty-five-year-old IBISWorld provides a portfolio of business research and analysis products for a range of business, professional service, and government organizations. The company publishes in-depth reports on more than 700 industries and profiles of more than 8,000 U.S. companies, along with databases of economic and demographic data relevant to various business sectors. Safari Books Online Adds Short Cuts
Safari Books Online (http://safaribooksonline.com), a joint venture of O'Reilly Media, Inc. and Pearson Technology Group, introduced Short Cuts, a series of short documents covering technologies either too early in their life cycles or too narrowly focused to become the subject of a full-length book. Short Cuts are produced by experienced authors who use the medium to provide concise, focused coverage of a topic. Like the books available through Safari Books Online, Short Cuts are editorially vetted and held up to publishing industry standards. Usually fewer than 100 pages, Short Cuts are designed to provide a dynamic authoring model with fresh and up-to-date information, offered in a time frame and format appropriate to the field.Safari Books Online's reference resources currently include more than 4,000 books from leading technical and business publishers O'Reilly Media, Pearson Technology Group, and others. The e-reference library is designed for programmers and IT and Web professionals. The service is committed to moving beyond book content. In February, it launched its Rough Cuts service, which provides evolving manuscripts that encourage reader feedback during the publication process. Access to Short Cuts will be included at no additional cost for Safari Library subscribers. For Safari Bookshelf users, most Short Cuts will take up one-half of a bookshelf slot. Cybrary City in Second Life to Showcase Library Resources
Talis Information, Ltd. (http://www.talis.com) and the Alliance Library System (ALS, http://www.alliancelibrarysystem.com) announced the debut of Cybrary City in Second Life, the 3-D virtual world built and owned by its residents. Cybrary City will be part of Info Island/Second Life Library services to provide a space for participating librarians to showcase their local resources.
