West Group Announces Enhancements to Westlaw Wireless

West Group (http://www.westgroup.com)has announced that Westlaw Wireless, the wireless version of Westlaw.com,now provides full-text wireless access to virtually all Westlaw and WestLegal Directory content. With the new release of Westlaw Wireless, wirelessusers can find a document, KeyCite a citation, and search Westlaw databases(using both Natural Language and Terms and Connectors [Boolean] searchmethods). Westlaw Wireless also offers expanded access to West Legal Directorycontent, including options to find an attorney, firm, courthouse, or legalprofessional by name or location.

The earlier version of WestlawWireless allowed users to retrieve headnotes and case synopses or to e-mailthe full document to any non-wireless e-mail account. Now, when wirelessusers access http://wireless.westlaw.com, they have the option to viewfull-text content (in 5K increments) directly on a hand-held device—includingthe full text of cases, statutes, regulations, and news legal periodicals—orto send the results of a search to one or more e-mail addresses.

Westlaw Wireless is availableto westlaw.com subscribers. For more information, including a completecompatibility list, or to download the latest version of Westlaw Wireless,visit http://www.westlaw.com/wireless.To promote these new enhancements, West Group is providing anyone witha valid Westlaw password and wireless access (from a compatible PDA device)free Westlaw Wireless usage until May 31. Westlaw Wireless works with auser's existing password and is optimized to a user's wireless device.

Dialog Announces Its Plans for 2001

Dialog (http://www.dialog.com), a subsidiary of Thomson Corp. since its purchase last year (http://www.thomson.com), has announced its strategies for this year and beyond. This coincided with the release of a number of new products and databases, including Dialog1. The company also announced the establishment of its Information Professional Market Development team. This group will coordinate and champion all Dialog programming to the information professional and librarian marketplace on a worldwide basis. In addition, Libby Trudell has been named senior vice president for Information Professional Market Development. Dialog is also launching its new theme—"Information to Change the World"—and a set of new graphical marks for its products.

"Dialog's strategy is to develop products and services for our core customers—information professionals—that build on our traditional strengths while leveraging the power of our brands, content, global sales and service organization, and leading-edge customization tools for the Internet," said Roy M. Martin Jr., Dialog's president and CEO.

Dialog's strategies will lay the groundwork for meeting the evolving requirements of information professionals who need to organize and categorize ever-increasing amounts of data from multiple sources, while better leveraging the Web and their own intranets to efficiently and effectively manage knowledge and deliver internal services. New intranet services from Dialog allow customers to enhance their information by providing active links from local content to Dialog content, all accessible with the same search tools. Aggressive programs to build new products and add content will support information professionals' exacting needs, and an enhanced focus on customer support and service will be implemented this year.

New Health Information Available on ProQuest

adam.com, Inc. (http://www.adam.com),a creator and syndicator of health information for the e-health and e-learningmarkets, has announced a new alliance with Bell & Howell Informationand Learning (http://www.infolearning.com)that will provide adam's online health information to libraries via Bell& Howell's ProQuest online information service. Bell & Howell Informationand Learning will offer adam's health content on a subscription basis topublic, university, and government libraries. Users will be able to accessadam's Health Illustrated Encyclopedia, Surgeries & Procedures, andPregnancy Health Center products through a new ProQuest health databasedesigned for library patrons.

The adam Health IllustratedEncyclopedia allows users to search thousands of medical conditions, diseases,injuries, surgeries, nutrition, and treatments. Surgeries & Proceduresexplains commonly performed surgeries, procedures, and tests with a seriesof illustrated, interactive online presentations. The Pregnancy HealthCenter covers frequently referenced health topics about the six stagesof pregnancy.

"This agreement reinforcesour efforts to enhance the ProQuest health database with high-quality content,"said Todd Fegan, vice president of product development for Bell & HowellInformation and Learning. "We want to provide library patrons with thebest single-source information possible on health and wellness issues."
