Dow Jones Newswires has launched an enhanced version of dowjonesnews.com, its subscription Web site for Internet customers around the world. The password-protected site carries the full Dow Jones Newswires content, traditionally available only via dealing-room terminals. It features redesigned graphics, new tools, and content including the following:
  • The ability to customize the layout of most areas of the site
  • An advanced search function based on flexible combinations of ticker symbols, category codes, and keywords (using Boolean search technology)
  • International stock indices and U.S. and Canadian stock quotes, with interactive charting
  • A range of help tools including an online guided tour
  • A code finder for creating customized filters of Dow Jones Newswires and Wall Street Journal stories

The redesigned dowjonesnews.com site combines Dow Jones Newswires’ international and North America Web sites (dowjonesnews.com and djnewsplus.com) and is hosted on upgraded server computers in its London data centers. In addition to the site and server upgrades, Dow Jones Newswires is also currently testing a redesigned Internet news-feed system, for the distribution of content to client Web sites across Europe and Asia, with selected customers. The news-feed engine is due to be operational later this summer. Source: Dow Jones Newswires

MightyWords to Offer Research Reports to Hoover’s Online Users

MightyWords (http://www.mightywords.com) and Hoover's, Inc. have announced that thousands of MightyWords' downloadable, printable professional reports are now available on Hoover's Online (http://www.hoovers.com). Hoover's Online product managers classify supplemental research reports within the context of Hoover's proprietary business information, giving users easy access to relevant business reports. Hoover's has integrated within its Information Marketplace MightyWords' business, computing, finance, technology, and sales and marketing reports from providers such as AMACOM, BusinessWeek, John Wiley & Sons, The New York Times, and ValuEngine.

Hoover's Information Marketplace includes a comprehensive collection of pay-per-view business research reports from multiple top-tier publishers. When Hoover's Online users perform a search on a company or industry, relevant MightyWords reports are automatically integrated into the corresponding Hoover's Company Capsule or Industry Snapshot results. With one click, users may read a document summary and subsequently purchase the report. The e-commerce and digital rights components are supported by MightyWords' back-end e-commerce software.

MightyWords is a source for mid-length, need-to-know digital content in the business and technical categories. MightyWords and its distribution partners bring to market material—including technical briefings, executive white papers, research reports, business articles, and health resources—that until now has been unavailable to the public because its length or subject has not adhered to traditional publishing and distribution rules.

Northern Light Launches Daily Site Search for Corporate Sites

Northern Light Technology (http://www.northernlight.com) has announced a new set of services to provide search technology and content to corporations for use on their public Web sites, internal intranets, and corporate extranets. Search ToolKit combines site search, including a daily crawl of the public pages of a company's site, and offers the option to access related content from the Web and Northern Light's online business library.

With the Search ToolKit, an enterprise can power its Web site with Northern Light's search technology, which not only organizes results into Custom Search Folders for users, but also utilizes sophisticated relevancy-ranking algorithms. Search ToolKit includes a variety of customization features so that a company can tailor a search to its business objectives as well as to the needs of its users. With Search ToolKit, clients are able to deliver results in the look and feel of their sites by designing and hosting the search form(s) themselves.

All searches are outsourced to Northern Light, thereby assuring no impact on the client site's performance. Northern Light crawls and indexes all new content on the site daily and provides custom crawling of dynamic sites as well as sites typically hidden behind logons. Search ToolKit is designed especially for medium to large Web sites that cannot easily use the off-the-shelf site-search products available from other vendors.
