Tribune Media Services to Launch FluentMedia
Tribune Media Services (TMS; http://www.tms.tribune.com) has announced the formation of a new Web-based information service for the corporate market. The content-licensing venture, known as FluentMedia (http://www.fluentmediainfo.com), will provide corporate Web sites with access to news, commentary, and analysis from major newspapers, premier trade publications, and other media sources. TMS is a subsidiary of the Chicago-based Tribune Co.Using advanced information-filtering software, FluentMedia will offer its clients customized feeds of editorial content for use on their intranets, extranets, and direct-to-consumer marketing sites. Among the media organizations whose content will be available through FluentMedia are the Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Newsday, Orlando Sentinel, Baltimore Sun, and other daily newspapers; C/NET News; Crain's Chicago Business and Crain's New York Business; Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News; The Daily Deal; and many other daily and weekly trade publications. The full text of news reports, feature stories, and opinion columns on the subjects of business, sports, entertainment, travel, health and fitness, government, politics, and international affairs will be available for licensing. Ask Jeeves Unveils Packaged Question-Answering Product
Jeeves Solutions (http://www.jeevessolutions.com), a division of Ask Jeeves, Inc. (http://www.ask.com), has announced the general availability of JeevesOne, its first packaged question-answering software product. For the last 3 years, Jeeves Solutions has delivered its technology as an outsourced service or application service provider to companies such as Dell, Ford, Nike, British Telecom, and Verizon. JeevesOne is being offered to companies that prefer a self-service solution that's customer-resident and delivers customer insight.JeevesOne is an automated, enterprise software application that's deployed, maintained, and controlled within the enterprise. According to the announcement, JeevesOne can be installed by organizations within hours and a customized implementation can be up and running in 3 weeks. JeevesOne gives companies control over the answers they deliver to customers. Product, service, policy, and information inquiries can be easily customized to serve not only the customer but also the changing needs of a company's marketing, product, or communications strategies. JeevesOne tools also enable fast customization of the user experience to send customers to e-mail, chat, voice, or a call center representative when appropriate. Pricing starts at $100,000. The JeevesOne engine uses a method known as "document-driven question answering" to access and categorize unstructured data and 255 document types, including Adobe PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It then interprets the information using advanced natural language techniques and automatically builds a semantic Answer Matrix. XanEdu Partners with Pearson Education on CoursePacks
XanEdu (http://www.xanedu.com), a division of ProQuest Information and Learning (http://www.il.proquest.com), has announced a partnership with Pearson Education (http://www.pearsoned.com) to create fully integrated print and digital CoursePack solutions with Pearson's Custom Publishing Division. Generating specialized CoursePacks to complement designated textbook curricula, the partnership will link texts with XanEdu's vast digital archive of commercial and scholarly journals, periodicals, newspapers, books, dissertations, primary literature works, and academic collections.The first integrated CoursePack solutions will premiere with textbooks in the subject areas of business and economics and will be available for faculty to implement in their classrooms this fall. Faculty will have the flexibility to select print or digital versions of XanEdu-powered CoursePacks. "XanEdu and Pearson Education recognize that the future of academic content is in the digital realm," said Lew Gossage, XanEdu's general manager.
