CSA Introduces RefWorks
RefWorks, a new Web-based bibliographic management tool, is now available from CSA (http://www.csa.com). According to the announcement, RefWorks makes it simple and fast for users to create a personal, searchable online database of references. These references can be easily imported into RefWorks from a variety of platforms and sources. The RefWorks program can then be used to format a manuscript and create a bibliography instantly. The service allows researchers at institutions to compile and disseminate research data in a consistent manner, institutionwide.RefWorks is compatible with nearly all major online services, including CAS SciFinder, OCLC FirstSearch, CDL (California Digital Library), Ovid, CSA, ProQuest, EBSCOhost, SilverPlatter WebSPIRS, ISI, NLM PubMed, and, coming soon, the Institute of Physics. Additionally, RefWorks users can import and export references from a number of other commercial bibliographic software products. ebrary Announces New Library Network Partners
ebrary (http://www.ebrary.com), a provider of information distribution and retrieval services, has announced that it has partnered with six new regional library networks to distribute its ebrarian service throughout the U.S. Partners include The Bibliographical Center for Research, which serves 3,000 libraries throughout the western U.S.; Michigan Library Consortium, which has 700 member libraries throughout Michigan; PALINET, a network of 600 libraries throughout the Mid-Atlantic area; NELINET, a network of approximately 700 libraries in the six New England states; Wisconsin Library Services, which serves 500 member libraries in Wisconsin; and OHIONET, which serves more than 500 libraries in Ohio.ebrary offers an affordable solution for desktop delivery of valuable books and other documents from more than 100 leading publishers. The ebrarian service is delivered via a custom Web site, which ebrary creates, hosts, and maintains. ebrarian integrates with libraries' digital resources and catalog and administrative processes, specifically through full MARC records for all titles in the ebrary repository. Special regional network and consortia pricing is available. ebrary charges an annual license fee for implementation, technology license, and maintenance. Adobe Systems Unveils FrameMaker 7.0
Adobe Systems, Inc. has announced the release of Adobe FrameMaker 7.0, the latest version of its single-source, multichannel publishing software. Adobe FrameMaker 7.0 now offers full XML support for authoring and publishing, with an easy-to-use word processing interface that can be utilized in corporate enterprises by nontechnical users. FrameMaker 7.0 now allows users to quickly and efficiently publish information to multiple channels, including XML, HTML, Adobe PDF, print, and SGML. It also provides output to the Palm Reader and Microsoft Reader.According to the announcement, FrameMaker 7.0 also offers high-end publishing functionality tailored to the creation and management of long, complex documents and provides for SVG integration for vector/interactive Web graphics. Other key features are WYSIWYG-based context-sensitive editing and authoring for structured documents and automated generation and updating of indexes, tables of contents, cross references, and hyperlinks. Target customers for FrameMaker 7.0 include corporate knowledge workers, information publishers, technical publishing departments (that produce manuals, user guides, and reference documentation), and commercial publishers. The product is deployable on the desktop or on the server. Adobe FrameMaker 7.0 and FrameMaker Server 7.0 will be available in the second quarter of this year to customers in the U.S., Europe, and Canada through Adobe Authorized Resellers and the Adobe Store at http://www.adobe.com. The estimated street price for FrameMaker 7.0 desktop version will be $799 for the full product with a special 90-day upgrade offer of $209 ($349 thereafter). The estimated street price for FrameMaker Server 7.0 will be $7,999.
