SLA Plans Merger With ASIS&T

The Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) and the Special Libraries Association (SLA) are undergoing formal negotiations to merge. Both associations pledge to be transparent in the process and to keep members involved in the future outcome.

“The boards of directors of ASIS&T and SLA have unanimously agreed to begin discussions aimed at creating a combined association that would serve a diverse, global membership of information professionals across academic, corporate, government, and nonprofit sectors,” the press release states. “Key areas under consideration include member services, programming, advocacy initiatives, and organizational identity. Further information will be shared with members as the merger plan develops, with opportunities for input and feedback throughout the process. Both ASIS&T and SLA remain fully operational and continue to deliver their planned programs and services.”

DCL Unveils Content Crystallizer for Transforming Word Documents Into XML

Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL) introduced Content Crystallizer, which “styles, edits, and transforms manuscripts in Word format into high-quality XML through an automated, streamlined, three-step process,” offering “a configurable production-ready solution that is tailorable to a publisher's or journal's specific editorial style and requirements. From styling and reference formatting to XML output and quality control validation, the system adapts to diverse editorial and production needs.”

“We recognized the need for a scalable, automated XML workflow with provision for editorial control,” says Mark Gross, DCL’s president, explaining that “Content Crystallizer fuses seamless manuscript preparation with our industry-leading conversion engine, allowing editors to apply custom overrides while automatically delivering impeccably formatted Word and XML files at scale.”

OASPA Seeks Feedback on Its Next 50% Project Primer Document

OASPA launched its Next 50% project “with a primer document that frames a fresh conversation about the future of open access.” The organization is “seeking inputs about our primer via an open survey which will accept responses until 11 July. … All who are interested are welcome to respond, either as individuals or on behalf of your organisation.”

C4DISC Creates a Toolkit for Disability Equity

C4DISC (Coalition for Diversity and Inclusion in Scholarly Communications) introduced “the Toolkit for Disability Equity, a comprehensive resource designed to advance disability equity in scholarly communications. This toolkit offers practical guidance, strategies, and tools to create more inclusive environments for individuals with disabilities.”

C4DISC states, “As a community-led project, our goal was to focus our resource on the needs of disabled people, while also incorporating best practices for engaging around disability issues in the scholarly communication workplace.”

CLOCKSS Makes Six New Journals Available OA
