LexisNexis SmartLinx Adds Visualization Technology
LexisNexis has enhanced its LexisNexis SmartLinx public records link discovery application with the anacubis visualization technology from i2, Inc., for the law enforcement market. i2's visualization technology enables SmartLinx users to instantly generate a picture of connections between people, places, assets and locations; revealing relationships not readily apparent within raw data. LexisNexis SmartLinx uses the linking technology to dissect and analyze 1.9 billion documents from 1,636 sources and link related names, addresses, phone numbers, and other information to appropriate people, businesses, and locations.SmartLinx can now depict entities such as people and organizations as icons and relationships between those entities are represented as links. One click within a SmartLinx summary opens a link view, revealing connections between the target of the search and any assets, addresses, business links, associated entities, liens and judgments or any other related data generated within SmartLinx. Users can manipulate the icons to expand relationships, show source documents, or filter out unnecessary information. Dialog Takes Over World News Connection
Dialog will take over hosting and maintaining World News Connection (WNC), the U.S. Government's daily online global news monitoring service. WNC is published by the National Technical Information Service (NTIS), an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce. It is a Web-accessible service that offers an array of translated and English-language news and information compiled daily by the U.S. government's Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS).FBIS bureaus around the world monitor news sources in their regions, covering virtually all countries worldwide except the United States. Editorial content includes articles and reports originating in countries that are not normally included in publicly available news digests, such as Iraq, Iran, and North Korea. WNC is currently offered directly by the NTIS. The service offers the full text and summaries of newspaper articles, conference proceedings, television and radio broadcasts, periodicals, and non-classified technical reports. Dialog will relaunch WNC later this year and expects to incorporate the WNC into its family of online services, and also to offer it as a separate, stand-alone service. Source: Dialog
EBSCO Releases Link Resolver
EBSCO Publishing announced that LinkSource has been officially released for trial and purchase. LinkSource is an OpenURL compliant link resolver designed to allow libraries to provide bidirectional, item-level linking to a wide range of online information resources from a single link menu. LinkSource, which was demonstrated during ALA Midwinter, has many linking partnerships in place, and EBSCO is working to establish partnerships with additional vendors.LinkSource instantly provides pre-validated links that match citations with available full text from more than 12,000 journals—approximately 16 million article links. LinkSource allows appropriate copy linking for DOI-based links (through CrossRef), links to virtually any Web-based library OPAC, and links to interlibrary loan or document delivery services. In addition, a number of pay-per-view options are available to acquire e-content either directly from the publisher or through EBSCOhost Electronic Journals Service. There is no need for libraries to purchase, configure, or maintain local servers since LinkSource is hosted at EBSCO Publishing's computing center.
