FIZ Karlsruhe Launches RDISCLOSURE
FIZ Karlsruhe has launched the defensive publication database RDISCLOSURE on STN International. RDISCLOSURE, claimed to be the most significant non-patent prior art database in the world, contains "cutting edge disclosures going back decades." According to the company, potential users would be industrial patent searchers, legal firms, and individual inventors wishing to locate prior art, check for patentability, or undertake validity or opposition searches.Produced by Kenneth Mason Publications Ltd., Westbourne, Hants, U.K., RDISCLOSURE provides the full text including images of technical disclosure records from the defensive publication journal Research Disclosure. The database RDISCLOSURE covers descriptions of inventions from all areas of science and technology, i.e., all classes of the IPC, and contains records from 1960 to the present. It is updated monthly. Current-awareness alerts (SDIs) are also available monthly. STN can be accessed by dial-in service using its client software STN Express with Discover! It can be accessed directly using a standard Web browser (http://stnweb.fiz-karlsruhe.de or secure server: https://stnweb.fiz-karlsruhe.de). Court Records Now Available on Alacra
LexisNexis CourtLink, Inc. (http://www.lexisnexis.com/courtlink), a provider of online access to court records, announced that it will distribute its newly launched Corporate Reports through Alacra, Inc., for sale on a transactional basis. Corporate Reports are Web-based summaries of litigation filed by and against publicly held companies in federal court. According to the company, nearly 97 percent of cases don't go to trial and remain unpublished since they are settled out of court or dismissed and are rarely covered by other sources.The reports initially will be available for most publicly held companies. Weekly, quarterly, and annual litigation summaries will be available. Each Corporate Report may include a case caption, date of filing, type of litigation, defendant and prosecution names, and jurisdiction. Embedded links to the cases' docket details will also be available. CourtLink has coverage of over 200 million cases in its database and electronically receives thousands of new filings every day. Alacra is a global provider of business and financial information. Its customers include more than 750 financial institutions, management consulting, law and accounting firms, and other corporations. New Directory of Open Access Journals Is Launched
Lund University Libraries (Lund, Sweden) has launched the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ, http://www.doaj.org), supported by the Information Program of the Open Society Institute (http://www.osi.hu/infoprogram/), along with SPARC (The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition, http://www.arl.org/sparc). The directory contains information about 350 open access journals, i.e., quality-controlled scientific and scholarly electronic journals that are freely available on the Web. The service will continue to grow as new journals are identified.The goal of the DOAJ is to increase the visibility and accessibility of open access scholarly journals, thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. The directory aims to cover comprehensively all open access scholarly journals that use an appropriate quality-control system. Journals in all languages and subject areas will be included in the DOAJ. The database records will be freely available for reuse in other services and can be harvested by using the OAI-PMH (http://www.openarchives.org/), thus further increasing the visibility of the journals. The further development of DOAJ will continue with version 2, which will allow the journals to be searched at the article level. This is expected to be available in late fall 2003.
