Techstreet Introduces Customizable Subscription Service
Techstreet (formerly CSSINFO), an online supplier of industry codes and standards for technical and engineering professionals, introduced a new subscription service that lets users pick and choose just what they need, across multiple publishers. The service provides simultaneous multiuser access to a custom set of standards from multiple worldwide locations—anywhere the user has an Internet connection. Documents are updated automatically so users are always guaranteed the most current and correct information. Standards initially available in Techstreet's Subscription service include API, ASME, IEEE, ACI, NSF, CSA, NACE, 3-A, ASHRAE, ISA, and many more.Techstreet's president Gregg Hammerman said: "Small and medium size corporations need alternatives to the comprehensive and expensive packages that don't provide quite what they need. Because of budget limitations, many of these companies settle for single-user print and PDF documents. But these documents don't offer the critical option of multiuser or multi-location access. We recognized the need for an 'in-between' product and developed a unique licensing and pricing model. OneSource Adds IT Data to Business Browser
OneSource has created more than 18,000 IT (information technology) profiles and added 30,000 IT executive contacts with data licensed from Applied Computer Research (ACR). ACR has been in the IT technical publishing business for 30 years and developed the Directory of Top Computer Executives database in conjunction with its publishing activities.OneSource also announced Business Browser UK / Technology Edition, which provides detailed information on suppliers, IT spending, and volumes of IT and telecom hardware and software at over 25,000 U.K. organizations, as well as increased U.K. executive information. Profiles of top U.S. and Canadian IT operations and contacts are available immediately to all subscribers of the OneSource U.S.-focused Business Browser products for no additional cost. The company said that sales and marketing professionals can use the new profiles to gain greater insight into their prospects' IT infrastructure to more quickly build target prospect lists. The profiles include the number of desktops at an organization and the types of servers that are installed, which will improve the preparedness of sales representatives offering IT products and services. Library Group Launches New Subscription Management Tool
The Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries launched GOLD RUSH (http://grweb.coalliance.org), a new tool to help librarians manage subscriptions to electronic resources. It is available in three licensing options. - GOLD RUSH REPORTS features a report comparison and analysis package that permits real-time side-by-side comparisons of databases, electronic journals, and the content within database aggregations, whether owned by the library or not. It can help minimize content overlap and aid decision making. GOLD RUSH does not discard any metadata from publishers, aggregators, and indexing/abstracting services. It maintains titles that are available in both full text as well as just indexed.
- GOLD RUSH BASIC adds a public interface for searching electronic journals to which the library subscribes, an online A-Z list, plus a serials subscription management package.
- GOLD RUSH COMPLETE adds a fully-functional OpenURL Resolver. This linker is centrally maintained for subscribing libraries and uses the staff interface of GOLD RUSH BASIC to add or delete holdings.
GOLD RUSH currently has title lists from over 500 sources representing over 55,000 different serial titles. Later in 2003, the product will allow a library to load a list of serials from a local OPAC into GOLD RUSH. In the meantime, the GOLD RUSH Linker (link resolver) can send the patron back to a local catalog or union catalog for easy look-ups of local print holdings or cataloged items.Source: Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries
