OverDrive Joins the OpenAthens Federation to Help Support Healthcare Organizations
OpenAthens announced that OverDrive “has joined the OpenAthens access management federation. OverDrive took the business decision so it can more easily scale access to libraries in the education and healthcare sectors, creating a more seamless experience for users worldwide.”OpenAthens shares, “One reason for OverDrive’s move to the federated access model is to support the NHS, one of the world’s largest healthcare providers. Previously, OverDrive supported single sign-on via multiple one-to-one connections which large and complex organizations would struggle to support. OverDrive is increasingly being used by NHS trust libraries to provide wellbeing and professional development for staff to access anytime, anywhere.” For more information, read the news item.
AM Rolls Out Spanish-Language Primary Source Collection of Mexican History
AM introduced its first Spanish-language primary source database, Mexico in History: Colonialism to Revolution, c.1500–1929, which is drawn from The Bancroft Library’s Latina Americana Collection. The collection includes rare manuscripts along with maps, photos, illustrations, and other visual materials. Although the content is primarily in Spanish, metadata is in both English and Spanish.For more information, read the news item.
Signals Aims to Make Research More Trustworthy With a New Publisher Service
Signals unveiled Signals Submissions Checks, “a free manuscript submissions check service for publishers to evaluate the research integrity profiles of their submissions.” The service “will integrate into editorial workflows to provide research integrity evaluations and key underlying signals for all submitted manuscripts.”The company states, “By giving all publishers, including smaller societies and specialist publishers, access to these essential evaluations, we can build a robust research integrity network that will help prevent the publication of articles from paper mills and other bad actors, protecting the scholarly record.” For more information, read the news item.
hoopla Adds a New BingePass for iNDIEFLIX Films
hoopla joined forces with iNDIEFLIX to develop a new BingePass that features more than 4,000 award-winning shorts, features, series, classics, and documentaries and has spotlighted collections such as diverse voices, women’s voices, action-adventure, sci-fi, comedy, and drama.“iNDIEFLIX aims to share thought-provoking, well-known and off-the-radar content by providing a platform for both young up-and-coming and seasoned filmmakers. Through this new partnership, participating public libraries will receive immediate access through hoopla with no additional fees or subscriptions to manage and patrons will receive unlimited access for a week to all of iNDIEFLIX’s content for free with a library card,” according to the press release. Taylor & Francis Teams Up With DataSeer to Work on Open Science
Taylor & Francis and DataSeer are starting “parallel pilot projects to address the practical challenges of open research implementation,” which comprise:- A joint proof-of-concept pilot project aimed at improving the accuracy and speed of editorial data-sharing checks across a broad range of journals with varying policies.
- An initial analysis of Open Science Metrics across a sample of 5,000 Taylor & Francis published articles.
“Together, the two pilots have the potential to increase data-sharing policy compliance, reduce the editorial workload, and provide business intelligence to help drive openness forward,” Taylor & Francis states. For more information, read the press release.
