CISTI to Offer Secure Web Delivery of Documents
The Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (CISTI; http://cisti.nrc.gc.ca) announced it will launch a new delivery method in December 2003. Secure Desktop Delivery (SDD) will enable Web delivery of copyright-cleared electronic documents directly to the end user. According to CISTI, clients have been asking for electronic delivery for years, and CISTI now has the technology and agreements in place to make this possible.CISTI clients who choose SDD as their delivery method will download a small plug-in (a simple piece of software) before they use SDD for the first time. The customized Adobe Acrobat plug-in makes it possible for clients to open, view, and print the document or documents ordered. As the launch date for the new service approaches, the free plug-in will be made available for download on the CISTI Web site. A client who orders a document and chooses SDD will receive an e-mail that includes a URL when the document is ready to download. Clients can click on the links they receive and log in to retrieve the documents they have requested. Users will retrieve their documents in Portable Document Format (PDF) from CISTI's secure server. CISTI, headquartered in Ottawa, began over 75 years ago as the library of the National Research Council of Canada, the leading agency for R&D in Canada, and became the National Science Library in 1957. The change to CISTI came in 1974 to reflect the wide scope of services provided and the increasing role in the development of electronic information products and services for the sci/tech community. Stellent Releases Content Management 7.0
Stellent, Inc. announced the release of Stellent Content Management 7.0. The company says this new version provides the only solution supporting each aspect of content management within a single, common product architecture.Stellent Content Server now supports Stellent's five application modules—document management, Web content management, records management, collaboration, and digital asset management applications—from a single server. The new version features a new common, graphical user interface (GUI) and common application programming interfaces (APIs). According to the announcement, this seamless architecture lowers the total cost of ownership and furthers the product's ease-of-use and flexibility. In addition, version 7.0 includes new, built-in records management capabilities and enhanced document management and imaging functionality. Stellent Content Management 7.0 will comply with the U.S. DoD 5015.2 standard, which defines the basic requirements that must be met by records management application products acquired by the Department of Defense and its components based on operational, legislative, and legal needs. The company plans to offer integrated support for the U.K.'s Public Records Office (PRO) standard by early next year. Source: Stellent, Inc.
Company Dossier Now Available in LexisNexis Academic
LexisNexis U.S. has announced the release of LexisNexis Company Dossier into the academic market. The research tool has been available to the corporate market and LexisNexis has now expanded its availability to the academic sector. LexisNexis Company Dossier integrates seamlessly into LexisNexis Academic. A search form for Company Dossier now appears directly on the home page of LexisNexis Academic and within the Business Search Form for subscribing institutions.Company Dossier provides access to critical strategic information including business news, competitive intelligence, financials, trademarks, and pending litigation from multiple sources and compiles a comprehensive profile on a targeted company. Users can specify search criteria on up to 16 attributes simultaneously, such as geographic location, company size, and financial metrics, and output side-by-side comparisons against other companies. Subscribers will also gain access to new sources of premium content that can be searched online within the business area of LexisNexis Academic, including Bloomberg News, BMI Company Reports, Business Public Records, Experian Business Reports, and Teikoku Japanese Companies-Detailed Reports.
