Digital Science Unveils an AI-Focused Premium Option for Its Papers Reference Manager

Digital Science launched Papers Pro, “an AI-enhanced premium version of its acclaimed reference manager, Papers.” It “is designed to make researchers and students more productive in their daily tasks,” transforming “how they discover, organize, read, annotate, share and cite research materials.” Powered by the Dimensions linked research database, Papers Pro helps “researchers find relevant content faster than ever before, [by] including AI querying capabilities” and other features such as the AI Assistant “for seamless interaction with articles stored in the user’s library” and Chat with PDF to help users “spot trends and identify research gaps.”

Clarivate Introduces a Gen AI-Powered Research Assistant for the Web of Science

Clarivate rolled out the Web of Science Research Assistant, a generative AI-powered tool that “helps researchers find key papers faster, handle complex research tasks and visualize connections. The chat interface combined with the Web of Science knowledge graph allows researchers to get more out of their interactions with 120 years of trusted publication and citation data in the Web of Science Core Collection.” Features include flexible document searching in multiple languages, guided prompts and tasks to help expand or refine the scope of research, and unique data visualizations in the form of trend graphs, topic maps, and co-citation networks.

T-Mobile Shares How Its Project 10Million Helps Students

T-Mobile published a community story detailing how its Project 10Million, “the company’s initiative aimed at delivering internet connectivity to millions of underserved student households, can help set children up for success in the classroom and beyond. … Announced in 2019 and launched in 2020, Project 10Million aims to close the digital divide in education by offering free internet connectivity and mobile hotspots for up to 10 million eligible student households. Additionally, the program provides school districts with free or heavily subsidized data plans and ensures that all participants have access to affordable laptops and tablets.”

BiblioCommons Announces Its Next BiblioCon Is in October 2024

BiblioCommons’ annual conference, BiblioCon, is returning in 2024. It will be held online Oct. 9–11, and all registration fees will be waived for all public library professionals. The first-day sessions are designed to appeal to these professionals regardless of whether they are BiblioCommons customers. They “will be led by public library staff and industry experts and are designed to inspire and equip attendees with strategies to enhance their library’s connection with their communities.” The second-day sessions “are geared toward current BiblioCommons subscribers and will dive deeper into using the BiblioCommons suite of products.” On the third day, BiblioCommons office managers will hold office hours that are “exclusive to BiblioCommons Partner Libraries, [and] provide an intimate setting for participants to discuss product-specific questions and inquire about the product roadmap.”

'Cybersecurity Pilot Program Launched by FCC to Defend Schools, Libraries' by Jericho Casper

Jericho Casper writes the following for Broadband Breakfast:

The Federal Communications Commission announced [on Sept. 4] its $200 million Schools and Libraries Cybersecurity Pilot Program is just days away from being operational. Eligible K–12 schools and libraries can apply for funding starting September 17, with the window closing on November 1, according to the agency’s public notice.

Adopted by a 3-2 FCC vote in June, the three-year pilot program will bolster cybersecurity protections for educational institutions, which have become frequent targets of ransomware attacks and data breaches due to the large amounts of personal data they manage, including addresses, social security numbers, and medical information.
