The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) announced the results of its latest board elections: Robert Wheeler (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers) becomes chair of the NISO board after serving as vice chair for the past year; Jonathan Clark (DOI Foundation) becomes vice chair; Trevor A. Dawes (University of Delaware) was re-elected to the board; and the newly elected directors are Jenny Mathias (Cambridge University Press & Assessment), Jill Morris (Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration & Innovation; PALCI), and Emily Singley (Elsevier). The directors serve a 3-year term.Matthew Guariglia, a senior policy analyst at the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), was named a National Governing Institutions Fellow at the John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress. Penny Ladkin-Brand joined the Informa leadership team as the chief executive of Taylor & Francis. 'Springer Nature Staff Squeezed by Cost of Living Crisis Go on Strike Over Pay' by Jamie Durrani
Jamie Durrani writes the following for Chemistry World:UK-based employees at the scientific publisher Springer Nature [took] strike action [on June 20] in a dispute over pay. The move comes after negotiations broke down in April, with union representatives citing Springer Nature’s high profit margins as evidence of its ability to improve employees’ pay as they struggle with dramatic increases in the cost of living. Clarivate Unveils the 2024 Update to the Journal Citation Reports
Clarivate “released the 2024 update to the Journal Citation Reports (JCR). The reports provide an essential and comprehensive resource of high-quality journals, ranked by field to enable academic institutions, researchers and publishers to gauge the significance of journals in the global research landscape. Changes to journal rankings include the addition of the Emerging Sources Citation Index.”Clarivate continues, “This year, for the first time, the JCR includes unified rankings across subject categories. There will no longer be separate [journal impact factor] rankings for the nine subject categories that are indexed in multiple editions. Now those journals will receive a single ranking in their subject category and the separate rankings will be eliminated.” For more information, read the press release.
World Scientific Publishing Adds Nine Journals to ResearchGate
ResearchGate shared the following:ResearchGate, the professional network for researchers, and World Scientific Publishing, a leading international independent publisher of books and journals, … announced a new partnership to grow readership and authorship, as well as enhance engagement between readers and authors through the ResearchGate platform. All new and archive content from nine World Scientific journals will be made accessible on ResearchGate, covering 32,000 full-text version of record articles. The journals, including both fully open access and hybrid titles, are International Journal of Modern Physics B, International Journal of Structural Stability and Dynamics, International Journal of Modern Physics A, Journal of Innovative Optical Health Sciences, Journal of Advanced Dielectrics, International Journal of Innovation Management, International Journal of Innovation and Technology Management, Journal of Information & Knowledge Management, International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos.
