STN Service Offers New Pharmaceutical Database
FIZ Karlsruhe has launched a new pharmaceutical database, Pharmaceutical Substances (PS), on its STN International service that offers comprehensive substance information, trade data, and preparation methods for over 2,300 active pharmaceutical ingredients. PS (produced by Georg Thieme Verlag, Stuttgart, Germany) was initially offered by Thieme as a printed version in one, then two volumes (Pharmaceutical Substances; Syntheses, Patents, Applications), and is now also available electronically. The new database, PS on STN, contains the same data available in Thieme's electronic version, and is not offered by any other online host.PS is a first point of reference for researchers wishing to screen references to drugs before turning to more detailed primary literature, such as the original patent application or the original research paper. For each active pharmaceutical ingredient, reaction schemes for the most important ways of synthesis are available. Starting substances, intermediates, and active ingredients are structure-searchable. Reactants and products are structure-searchable with a single reaction query. Source: FIZ Karlsruhe
