Infotrieve Purchases Technology Provider LabVelocity
Infotrieve, Inc. (http://www.infotrieve.com), a provider of on-demand delivery of scientific, technical, and medical (STM) information, has purchased life sciences information management software and technology services provider LabVelocity. Infotrieve says it will leverage this acquisition to pioneer "the first large-scale workflow integration of scientific and technical literature with laboratory products used by life scientists and engineers during the research and development process."LabVelocity has supported life scientists with on-demand access to technical information and laboratory research products since its inception in 1999, made available through partnerships with laboratory product suppliers. Infotrieve will integrate both its existing and future solutions with those from LabVelocity, beginning with enabling links to research products in the "Materials and Methods" section of electronic journal articles. Researchers will be able to transfer product requests to their purchasing organizations or directly into their internal procurement systems. LabVelocity co-founder and president Erik Lium, Ph.D., has joined Infotrieve along with other key LabVelocity executives. CABI Publishing Launches Global Health Archive
CABI Publishing (http://www.cabi-publishing.org) has launched the Global Health Archive, which provides electronic access to almost 100 years of scientific research in public and international health. This is the first time that CABI has made its print archive available in a searchable, bibliographic database. The file contains literature from 1908 to 1983 that is still relevant to today's public health researcher.Global Health Archive, a database equivalent to more than 300 volumes of research, will be fully searchable alongside the current file, Global Health. Global Health covers records from 1973 to the present with more than 50,000 abstracts of current literature selected, abstracted, and classified by subject specialists every year. Together the files provide a global picture of international public health research both past and present. Scientific material is taken from 125 countries. The company says that 40 percent of the material cannot be found in comparable databases. Global Health and Global Health Archive are available through CABI Publishing's own platform CAB Direct, which has recently been upgraded. They are also available through other leading database vendors. CQ Acquires Congressional Transcription Business
Congressional Quarterly, Inc. (CQ), a provider of news and analysis on Congress, politics, and public policy, announced the acquisition of the political business of Federal Document Clearing House's FDCH e-Media, which it re-christened CQ Transcriptions. CQ Transcriptions provides congressional hearing transcripts and testimony and licenses its content to publishers and distributors, including the Associated Press, LexisNexis, EBSCO, and Factiva.CQ Transcriptions will contract with a third party to produce the verbatim transcripts of speeches, press conferences, and news events, with particular emphasis on the Office of the President, Congress, the State Department, the Pentagon, and the Department of Justice. Congressional coverage will be particularly comprehensive, focusing on testimony submitted before congressional committee hearings, press releases, and "Dear Colleague" letters issued by congressional and committee offices. With more than 100 reporters, editors, and researchers on Capitol Hill, CQ keeps readers updated in print and online on a weekly, daily, and real-time basis. CQ's product line includes CQ Weekly, CQ Today, CQ.com, CQ Homeland Security, CQ Budget Tracker, Governing Magazine, and a line of books and directories under the CQ Press imprint.
