IHS, Inc. Files for IPO; Announces Agreement with SAE

IHS, Inc. has filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for an initial public offering of up to $350 million of its Class A common stock. The shares are being offered by IHS and certain of its stockholders. Colorado-based IHS provides technical information, decision-support tools, and related services to customers in the energy, defense, aerospace, construction, electronics, and automotive industries.

In other news, IHS, Inc. (http://www.ihs.com) and SAE International (http://www.sae.org) announced an agreement to provide improved access to SAE Historical Standards. The Engineering division of IHS will become the exclusive distributor of SAE Historical Aerospace Standards and SAE Historical Ground Vehicle Standards via online or DVD subscriptions—available for the first time in electronic format. The SAE Historical Standards subscription from IHS is continually updated as revised standards are issued; it includes 8,000 SAE standards and material specifications spanning the 1940s to the present.

Ingenta Expands Relationship with Infotrieve

Ingenta and Infotrieve, Inc. announced an expanded partnership that allows Ingenta-hosted content to be indexed by Infotrieve's full-text crawler. This will enable Infotrieve to provide full-text article searches via its discovery research portals, thereby increasing resources for Infotrieve customers and generating additional document delivery traffic for Ingenta-hosted publishers.

Ingenta manages and distributes published scientific, professional, and academic research via the Internet; it also develops and maintains specialist Web sites for publishers, self-publishing societies, and libraries. For publishers of scientific, professional, and academic periodicals, journals, and reference works, Ingenta provides a suite of publisher services including data conversion, secure online hosting, access control, and distribution services. For libraries and information professionals, Ingenta offers collection management and comprehensive document delivery options.

Infotrieve provides content software technology and information services for the life sciences and other R&D-intensive industries. The company develops enterprise solutions and integrated workflow applications that enhance clients' collaboration throughout each phase of the product development life cycle.

Parity Computing Upgrades Profiler System

At the recent AAP/PSP meeting, Parity Computing, Inc. announced the public release of version 3 of its Profiler System software for automatically creating organizational and professional profiles. The platform can identify people and institutions from diverse data sources (such as research literature, books, patents, press releases, and company Web pages) and can organize them into unique, unambiguous profiles. The company said this enables researchers to stay on top of the achievements of colleagues, to track who's who in related fields, to understand the research strengths of individual institutions, and to identify individuals with compatible research interests.

Version 3 adds the following capabilities:

  • Scalability to handle massive data sources
  • Improved accuracy to merge and disambiguate names
  • Customer interface to combine and split profiles and control updates
  • Client management of individual privacy preferences
