SilkRoad Expands Silkware Platform
SilkRoad technology, Inc. (http://www.silkroadtech.com) is introducing on March 7 its new Silkware platform, which offers blogging, audio/video blogging (Silkclips), instant messaging, chat, and surveying and polling software. These features are offered together or separately in a subscription-based, software-as-a-service model. A single dashboard with one login and one password provides access to all the applications. The unification of the Silkware platform gives customers the ability to expand the number of services they use as their companies grow. Once a customer is using one application, adding additional licenses is a seamless process.The Silkclips audio/video blogging tool will let users capture, publish, and play back audio and video clips, adding a new layer of functionality to their online correspondences. With Silkclips, users can capture and upload videos from videophone, PCs, or Macintosh computers. Individual bloggers also can add comments to their own videos, accept outside comments and trackbacks, publish videos and Webcasts to any blog, view videos in a Web page, or in SilkRoad's Silkplayer, and securely and privately share videos. Other products available on the Silkware platform include Silkmessenger, Silkblogs, Silksurveys, and Silkpolls. FAST Introduces ProPublish Solution
Fast Search & Transfer (FAST) announced the availability of FAST ProPublish, a complete enterprise search-based publication production management and delivery solution for professional and business publishers. FAST ProPublish is the latest Search Derivative Application (SDA) that leverages the FAST Enterprise Search Platform (FAST ESP). The product's modular Content Processing Pipeline offers stages for automated entity extraction, linguistic analysis, and content classification, all designed to reduce the production costs associated with creating publications. CABI to Add Abstracts Archive
CABI Publishing (http://www.cabi-publishing.org), a division of CAB International, says it is "on the verge" of launching CAB Abstracts Archive. Covering the literature from 1910 to 1972, the archive will make more than 1,860,000 records on every aspect of agricultural science, veterinary medicine, nutrition, and natural resources available electronically for the very first time—and with re-indexed records. It will be available on the CAB Direct platform in the second quarter of 2005, on Ovid and SilverPlatter in the third quarter, and on other platforms after that.CABI says the archive will combine 17 printed abstract journals (the equivalent of 600 volumes) into a single electronic database, bringing to light important research that has been "lost." To ensure that the archive is fully searchable, CABI Publishing has completely re-indexed all records. Obsolete terms have been replaced with modern equivalents to allow today's researchers full and immediate access to the research of the past. CAB Abstracts contains more than 4.5 million records dating from 1973 to the present. More than 6,000 academic journals and 3,500 other documents are scanned and abstracted annually to go onto the database.
