Sustainable Development Knowledge Cooperative Showcase Goes Live
Kudos and Impact Science rolled out the Sustainable Development Knowledge Cooperative, one of their showcases featuring plain-language summaries of actionable research on current topics. This launch focuses on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each of the 300 summaries in the showcase is mapped against the relevant SDGs and offers a key takeaway that clearly explains researchers’ recommendations for change. Denodo Gains Investment for Continued Expansion of Its Data Management Solutions
Data management company Denodo signed a definitive agreement for TPG Growth to invest $336 million in Denodo’s Series B preferred equity. The transaction is expected to close in early October following the typical regulatory approvals.“Denodo’s unique data virtualization software, which allows enterprises to create unified views of disparate data sources that can be queried easily without moving them, has powered impressive, profitable growth, says Mike Zappert, partner at TPG Growth. “[T]he company has built a notable roster of marquee, global customers including TPG, and we see a tremendous opportunity to accelerate Denodo’s expansion going forward.” For more information, read the press release.
eLife Makes Preprint Submission Easier for Researchers
eLife introduced a system that will simplify the payment process for authors who submit preprints to its new publishing model—they can declare their affiliation during the submission process, and their institution will handle the publication fee invoice on an author’s behalf through a central account. eLife’s new publishing model allows preprints to be published as Reviewed Preprints alongside public reviews and an eLife assessment.The system is currently being tested with contributors from Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and eLife plans to add other research institutions in the future. ALA Shares Preliminary Data on 2023 Book Challenges
ALA “released new preliminary data documenting the continued rise in attempts to censor books and materials in public, school and academic libraries during the first eight months in 2023.” The organization’s Office for Intellectual Freedom (OIF) reports that between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31, 2023, there were “695 attempts to censor library materials and services and documented challenges to 1,915 unique titles.”OIF says the number of unique titles increased 20% from the same period last year, “the year in which the highest number of book challenges occurred since ALA began compiling this data more than 20 years ago. Most of the challenges were to books written by or about a person of color or a member of the LGBTQIA+ community,” ALA notes. For more data and examples of book challenges, read the press release.
Kyndi Rolls Out Latest Version of Its Generative AI-Based Answer Engine
Kyndi launched Kyndi 6.0, its latest Generative AI Answer Engine. “The latest release introduces several new features that address the need for more effective knowledge management and AI transparency. Integrated into Kyndi’s award-winning Platform, the new features expand on the existing generative AI use cases for enterprises looking to optimize their knowledge management process and the information retrieval experiences for the end users,” Kyndi states.Features in Kyndi 6.0 include Topics, which helps users “build a knowledge base in as little as an hour, saving internal teams significant time and resources from manually organizing and creating content while optimizing the outputs,” and Citation, an “end user interface powered by generative AI that serves up both curated and auto-generated answers. The Soutron Information Resource Management System Gives Organizations Centralized Control
Soutron Global unveiled the Soutron Information Resource Management System (IRMS) to help organizations control their physical and digital information resources while also ensuring that information governance and business rules are enforced. The Soutron IRMS facilitates a single, secure search interface to siloed departmental information resources, making it easier to share knowledge across departments in an organization. University of Sussex Combines Digital Science Companies to Improve Research Data Management
The University of Sussex in the U.K. has integrated Digital Science’s figshare and the Elements platform from Symplectic to create an interoperable research information and data management solution. The university has been using Elements as its research information system since 2020, and it began using figshare for its OA institutional repository needs in 2022.“Through this integration Sussex is leading the way in bringing together the combined strengths of two of Digital Science’s products, affording Sussex greater opportunities to further enhance the experience of researchers from all research disciplines,” says Jonathan Breeze, MD Research Workflows at Digital Science and CEO of Symplectic. Clarivate Reveals Its List of 2023 Citation Laureates
Clarivate “named 23 world-class researchers from institutions in five countries as Citation Laureates. These are researchers whose work is deemed to be of Nobel class, as demonstrated by analysis carried out by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) at Clarivate.”Clarivate continues, “This year’s Citation Laureates have made significant contributions across a diverse range of fields, including cancer treatment, human microbiomes, synthetic gene circuits, spintronics, designer molecular structures, sleep/wake cycles, wealth inequality and urban economics. Sixteen of the honorees are based at leading academic institutions in the United States, two each are based in Japan, the United Kingdom and France, and one is based in Germany. IFLA Shares the History of How the United Nations SDGs and Libraries Intertwine
