Springshare Will Launch New Functionality to Help Libraries Offer Museum Passes
Springshare will be introducing a LibCal Museum Passes and eTickets functionality, which will provide a ticket-management solution for libraries that offer museum passes and access to other cultural institutions. Planned for December 2022, it will be part of the Spaces and Equipment Booking module of the LibCal platform and work alongside existing functionality. This module with the new functionality will allow libraries to do the following:- Create a visual catalog of ‘Library of Things’ items.
- Control lending of physical tickets and museum passes.
- Issue and manage downloadable ePasses for museums, zoos, and other venues.
- Offer a mobile-friendly lending experience, right out of the box.

Clarivate Rolls Out Its Annual G20 Scorecard Report
Clarivate’s Institute for Scientific Information released its annual report looking at the research performance of each G20 member. “The Annual G20 Scorecard - Research Performance 2022” (registration required) features a written summary along with graphs and exhibits analyzing topics of current policy interest to regional research economies. Findings include the following:- Australian international impact continu[es] to be the highest among the G20 at 1.67. Output continues to rise, driven by the mathematical and physical sciences, where output has doubled, and engineering, where output has trebled in the last decade.
- Mainland China’s output has tripled in a decade, with more than a third of a million papers published in the mathematical and physical sciences (including chemistry and materials science) in 2021 alone. …
- In Saudi Arabia more than four-fifths of all output is now internationally collaborative, with the total output having more than doubled between 2018 and 2021. This leads to an impact well above world average.

OCLC Unveils Choreo Insights Solution for Use by North American Libraries
OCLC is making its new Choreo Insights library analytics solution available to early adopters in North America. Choreo Insights uses WorldCat holdings data to help libraries with collection development, including making cost-effective purchasing decisions, increasing collection diversity, and supporting key campus academic programs. It compares “detailed subject breakdowns of local collections with overlap and gap analysis of any other library or group in WorldCat,” the press release states. “Choreo Insights analysis can take only seconds to perform and is not limited to one-time reports and static snapshots. Libraries can try a variety of analysis scenarios, such as comparing institutions with programs they hold in high esteem, or trim results based on years of publication and other facets.”For more information, read the press release.
PLOS Signs OA Agreement With UNAM, Its First Flat-Fee Institution in Mexico
PLOS signed a 1-year agreement with the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) to allow UNAM researchers to publish in PLOS ONE and other PLOS journals without incurring article-processing charges (APCs). The agreement—which, as a flat-fee model, shifts publishing costs from authors to research institutions—begins on Jan. 1, 2023. It allows PLOS and UNAM to collaborate on data, metrics, and tools that OA publishing agreements may implement in the future.“We are thrilled to be collaborating with UNAM, our first flat fee institution in Mexico, which furthers our global outreach that will continue on through Latin America,” says Sara Rouhi, director of strategic partnerships at PLOS. “As the largest research institution in Mexico, UNAM is uniquely well-positioned to demonstrate the benefits of Open Access publishing and Open Research practices.” For more information, read the press release.

The Library of Congress (LC) is hosting a free, live, five-part webinar series starting in December 2022 to celebrate its 2022 Literacy Awards winners and honorees.
