Gale Rolls Out New Online, Accredited Diploma Completion Program for Use in Public Libraries

Cassyni Launches to Revitalize the Online Seminar Infrastructure
The founders of Kopernio (now EndNote Click), Mendeley, and Publons created a new company called Cassyni. The press release states the following:With the launch of Cassyni, the team seeks to address a previously underserved problem in research: the discovery, organisation and publication of academic seminars. Seminars are a critical part of the research ecosystem, with more than a million held each year. They are a key part of research culture allowing academics to share ideas, often while they are still in development. During the pandemic, in-person seminars have become difficult to hold, but online meetings have opened up opportunities to increase the reach and impact of academic seminars. Cassyni is a smart online video seminar space—making it much easier for researchers to create, capture and publish content and recordings of academic seminars in a cohesive and transparent manner. … Researchers organize, host, run and publish their own seminars, and assign them with a DOI so they can be cited by the academic community and also discover seminars of interest and join live or watch recordings of past seminars. … Academic institutions increase the global impact and reach of their research by providing institution-wide access to Cassyni. Institutions can much better support the growth of research communities and amplify the international reach and impact of seminars via dedicated institutional analytics and comparisons. Bibliotheca Adds Hearst Magazines to Its cloudLibrary Catalog
Bibliotheca announced that Hearst Media, which publishes magazines across all platforms, is now part of its NewsStand catalog. According to the press release, “cloudLibrary NewsStand, Bibliotheca’s digital magazine and newspaper subscription service, now provides libraries with unlimited simultaneous access to more than 7,000 titles in over 60 languages. The collection can be viewed at cloudLibrary.magzter.com. … NewsStand offers all titles for unlimited, simultaneous use, eliminating hold times and increasing circulation.”“[W]e know that the addition of such popular Hearst titles as Esquire, Cosmopolitan, and Good Housekeeping will be a boon to library readers,” says Tom Mercer, SVP of digital products at Bibliotheca. American Astronomical Society Journals Move to Open Access
The American Astronomical Society (AAS) is making its journals fully OA as of Jan. 1, 2022. AAS shares, “Under this change, all articles in the AAS journal portfolio will be immediately open for anyone to freely read.” The journals moving to OA are The Astronomical Journal, The Astrophysical Journal, The Astrophysical Journal Letters, and The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. The Planetary Science Journal, AAS’ newest publication, is already fully OA.AAS adds, “The transition to OA will allow everyone to access this high-quality and trusted research, and it will offer scientists low-cost fully OA options for publishing their research in astronomy and related disciplines. The new publishing policy aligns with ongoing efforts by the Society to center diversity, equity, and inclusion in its work within the astronomical community.” For more information, read the news item.
