Carnegie Mellon University Libraries Introduces an Oral History Podcast
Carnegie Mellon University’s (CMU) libraries launched the first season of the weekly Cut Pathways podcast, which was developed by CMU’s Oral History Program and draw on its archives. Program director and university archivist Katherine Barbera and production assistant David Bernabo will share hosting duties for the three-episode season, which begins on June 29. It will be available on all major podcasting platforms.
“The podcast will showcase different pathways that students and faculty follow to navigate their experiences in higher education,” a CMU libraries spokesperson shares in a press release sent to media outlets. “Conversations and discussions take an honest look at higher education, exploring themes of culture, equality, and access to education, as well as catalytic points of personal growth, technological innovation, and creative development. Each recorded history is full of funny anecdotes, follies, triumphs, hidden connections, and, occasionally, in-the-moment realizations.”

Google Now Flags Search Results That Are 'Changing Quickly'
Danny Sullivan, Google’s public liaison for search, writes the following for Google’s The Keyword blog:
While Google Search will always be there with the most useful results we can provide, sometimes the reliable information you’re searching for just isn’t online yet. This can be particularly true for breaking news or emerging topics, when the information that’s published first may not be the most reliable.
To help with this, we’ve trained our systems to detect when a topic is rapidly evolving and a range of sources hasn’t yet weighed in. We’ll now show a notice indicating that it may be best to check back later when more information from a wider range of sources might be available. …
With our recently-launched About This Result panel, you can also quickly find information about sources you find on Google Search and better determine if they’re likely to provide helpful or trustworthy information. With this additional context, you can make a more informed decision about the sites you may want to visit and what results will be most useful for you.

IFLA Section Whips Up a Global Community Kitchen
IFLA’s Continuing Professional Development and Workplace Learning (CPDWL) section shared its new project, the CPDWL Global Community Kitchen, which showcases “favorite dishes from [its] standing committee members.” The homepage features an interactive map, and anyone can click on a pinned location to see information about the highlighted food from that region (or submitted by a member from that region). So far, dishes include Swedish meatballs, Causa Limeña (Peruvian potato cake), Egyptian falafel, and South African milk tart.

Modern Campus Acquires the Presence Engagement Platform
Modern Campus acquired Presence, which a company that offers a platform for student affairs divisions that helps colleges and universities grow their student engagement (thereby increasing retention, graduation rates, and workforce readiness). Presence will be integrated with the Modern Campus platform, which includes Modern Campus Omni CMS and Modern Campus Destiny One, along with DIGARC’s catalogue of products. With Presence now joining Modern Campus, the companies can offer massively personalized experiences that encourage student engagement and involvement in their learning.

BiblioCommons Brings the BiblioEmail Tool Into Its CMS
BiblioCommons has integrated its BiblioEmail marketing tool into BiblioWeb, its CMS and webpage builder for public libraries. Using BiblioWeb, library staffers can make one piece of content for promotion across multiple webpages; BiblioEmail also has this capability, intelligently pulling content into email campaigns and newsletter templates that can be customized based on patron needs.
“BiblioWeb and BiblioEvents are available to public libraries as one offering, so it makes sense that we would extend the subscription to include BiblioEmail as well,” says Sebastien Lopes, BiblioCommons’ general manager. “We’ve seen how our beta library partners are using the integration between BiblioWeb and BiblioEmail to create memorable, resourceful, and personalized communications that involve minimal staff effort due to how easily content can be repurposed.
