APA to Look for Open Science and Methodology Chairperson
The American Psychological Association (APA) created an open science and methodology chair. The chairperson, who will be recruited by the APA’s Publications and Communications Board this summer, will “work with [the APA’s] authors, reviewers, editors and publications board to understand and develop best practices for the evolving landscape of open science in psychological research,” according to the press release. Qualifications include experience in open science practices, editorial experience, and experience with data management.For more information, read the press release.
Kudos Unveils Results of New Shareable PDF Service
Kudos published the results of the first 6 months of its new Shareable PDF (S-PDF) service, which gives researchers the ability to add context to their work (in the form of bibliographic information, plain-language summaries, etc.) to improve discoverability and publishers the ability to track how effectively various platforms drive views and usage of authors’ works. According to the blog post, Kudos found the following:- 15 publishers have signed up to switch on the new S-PDF feature and enable their authors to use Kudos for managing their PDF-based sharing.
- The most recent publishers to sign up are Wiley, the American Meteorological Society, IWA Publishing, the Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy, Trans Tech Publications, and Tsinghua University Press.
- S-PDF has immediately become the most popular mechanism for sharing via Kudos, with 61% of authors choosing to use S-PDF to share their work, when offered it by their publisher
- S-PDF has substantially increased the number of authors sharing (via any channel), with more than twice as many authors now sharing their work for those publishers participating in S-PDF.
- The number of publications being shared (via any channel) has also more than doubled since the option was made live.

LexisNexis Helps Law Firms Track Billable Hours in Real Time
LexisNexis introduced the Time Matters Go app, a mobile timekeeping solution that integrates with its Time Matters case, client, and document management software. The app features voice-enabled data entry, timer and time entry options for tracking hours in real time, automatic reminders about billing, and more. Designed to reduce time loss by attorneys who reconstruct their time after a week (and thus lose 25%–35% of their billable time), Time Matters Go costs $99 per year for all Time Matters customers who have an Annual Maintenance Plan.For more information, read the press release.
Cloudtenna's DirectSearch Speeds Up Search Across Applications
Cloudtenna, a software startup, launched “to address the growing problem of file sprawl with enterprise file search that works universally across [on-premises] repositories, cloud file storage services, and hosted/online applications,” according to the press release. Its DirectSearch, currently in beta, is a search engine that uses machine learning, natural language processing, and automation to perform cross-silo file search (e.g., across local and network drives, Dropbox, and Google Drive), among other functions. “DirectSearch learns from relevance, context, and user behavior to continuously improve search results and rankings.” Users can search by name, sender, date, file type, keyword, and more.For more information, read the press release.
RedLink Updates Remarq
RedLink released a new version of the Remarq scholarly collaboration network, which now has the option for profiles to be discoverable through major search engines; the option for posting customizable post-publication reviews; the addition of user surveys and polls for publishers and editors looking to gather feedback; a Remarq Recommendations tab for identifying relevant papers, journals, groups, and users; alerts for activities related to people, journals, or articles that users follow; and compliance with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requirements.For more information, read the blog post.
