Kudos and PubFactory Join Forces
Kudos and PubFactory teamed up to give publishers the tools and services they need to promote their research content and increase author engagement. Publication data is automatically transmitted to Kudos, which initiates promotions for authors. Yahoo Will Change Its Name and Leadership After Verizon Sale
According to MediaPost, when Yahoo’s core search and advertising assets are transferred to Verizon—presumably in April 2017—the remaining company will be called Altaba. After the sale is complete, Yahoo board member Thomas McInerney will become the company’s CEO, and Alexi Wellman will become CFO. Google Plans to Acquire Data Scientist Platform
According to TechCrunch, Google is acquiring Kaggle, “a platform that hosts data science and machine learning competitions. Details about the transaction remain somewhat vague,” and neither company would confirm the acquisition. This large and active community for data scientists recently partnered with Google to host a competition for classifying YouTube videos.For more information, read the article.
Clarivate Analytics Rolls Out Preclinical Workflow Tools
Clarivate Analytics launched Drug Research Advisor, a suite of preclinical workflow tools to help healthcare professionals select relevant targets for preclinical development. Its first app is Target Druggability, which integrates drug, biological, experimental, and competitive intelligence into an interactive search tool for finding and selecting these targets. This reduces the time and money spent on using unqualified targets so companies can more quickly bring lifesaving medicines to market.For more information, read the press release.
ACS Voices Its Approval of the March for Science
The American Chemical Society (ACS) declared its support for the March for Science (April 22, 2017) based on the following conditions:- That the March adhere strictly to its established and publicly posted mission and principles, which closely mirror ACS’ own vision, mission and goals
- That the March continues to be a nonpartisan celebration of science focused on its many positive contributions toward improving the human condition and addressing the world’s most pressing challenges
The march coincides with ACS’s annual Chemists Celebrate Earth Day (CCED) event, “a nationwide celebration of the positive impact that chemistry has had on society and the environment.” For more information, read the press release.
APA Fights for Mental Health Support
The American Psychological Association (APA) made a statement voicing its concern about the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. It says the proposed replacement bill “would reduce mental health and substance use coverage for millions of Americans enrolled in Medicaid and contribute to the loss of coverage for millions more individuals.”The APA also made a statement in support of the March for Science on April 22, 2017, and it became an official partner of the march. “We wholeheartedly support the aims of this march, which align with APA’s mission to advance the creation, communication and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people’s lives,” says Howard Kurtzman, the APA’s acting executive director for science. “We encourage all psychologists, psychology students and their allies to join this broad, nonpartisan effort to support scientific research and the use of scientific evidence for the public good.” For more information, read the press releases.
Springer Nature Rolls Out Data Aggregation Service
Springer Nature SciGraph is a new linked open data platform that aggregates data sources from Springer Nature and its partners so users can analyze information from funders, research projects and grants, conferences, publications, and other sources. By the end of 2017, SciGraph will offer citations, patents, clinical trials, and other data, the majority of which will be freely accessible. It can help researchers perform tasks such as discovering what conferences are happening in subject areas with increased funding, reading the Springer Nature articles that cite colleagues, and analyzing the distribution of Springer Nature authors by country in a specific field.For more information, read the press release.
ScienceOpen Improves Searching on Its Platform
ScienceOpen released a suite of features to its search and discovery interface, such as new filters for OA articles and author affiliations to make them more easily identifiable, as well as the ability to sort content by the date it was indexed by ScienceOpen.For more information, read the press release.
Altmetric Updates Explorer for Publishers
Altmetric rolled out a new version of Explorer for Publishers that makes it easier for publishers to view and analyze the online engagement and academic impact of their articles, books, datasets, and other content. It has a redesigned interface with collated attention data and citations from Scopus and Web of Science, expanded search capabilities, visualizations, and a variety of export options.For more information, read the press release.
ProQuest Dialog Users Can Now Search More Patent Sources
ProQuest partnered with Gridlogics to give intellectual property researchers access to a comprehensive set of search, workflow, analytics, and visualization tools. Thanks to their collaboration, ProQuest Dialog customers can use a single interface to search the world’s largest collection of prior art, 33 full-text patent authorities, 69 bibliographic authorities, and three patent families. They can also access Gridlogics’ PatSeer platform to search 42 full-text patent authorities and use its analytics and visualization tools.For more information, read the press release.
