Springer Nature Has New Research Data Policies
Springer Nature’s new research data policies have been adopted by 600-plus journals from Nature Research, Springer, BioMed Central, and Palgrave Macmillan. The text of the policies, which encourages the publication of more open research that is easily reproducible, is available under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license. Springer Nature authors, editors, and peer reviewers can use them to view standardized procedures, get more consistent links between publications and data and guidelines and support, and access a dedicated Research Data Support Helpdesk.For more information, read the press release.
CCC Updates RightFind XML for Mining
Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) made improvements to its RightFind XML for Mining software, which helps organizations use text mining to gain insights from STM sources by providing XML-formatted subscribed content and purchase options for nonsubscribed content. Its enhancements include new search functionality, the ability to collaborate and share projects with colleagues, new synchronization architecture to ensure the latest article versions, and new metadata fields for better text-mining queries.For more information, read the press release.
APA Begins Selling Streaming Videos
The American Psychological Association (APA) made more than 240 of its training and educational DVDs available as streaming videos for desktop, laptop, and mobile devices. These include titles in the series APA Psychotherapy, Psychotherapy Supervision, Psychological Assessment, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Techniques and Strategies. New titles will be added to the streaming collection within a month of their DVD release.For more information, read the press release.
Library of Congress Provides More Content to DPLA
The Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) joined forces with the Library of Congress (LC) for a new collaboration: LC will become an official DPLA content hub. Its first batch of digital resources for DPLA’s database is a collection of 5,000 map-related items from the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and panoramic maps collections. The library will add more items, such as photos and sheet music, over time. These items will be free to view on DPLA’s website, joining LC’s existing collection in DPLA of more than 100,000 ebooks.For more information, read the blog post.
Federal Agencies at Varying Levels of Compliance With DATA Act
The Data Coalition published a compilation of evaluations on the progress that federal agencies are making in complying with the Digital Accountability and Transparency Act of 2014 (DATA Act). Each agency is required by law to report its spending information using a standardized data structure beginning in May 2017 so that it is all searchable as a single dataset.To view summaries of the evaluations from the large federal agencies’ offices of inspector general, read the Data Coalition’s blog post.
U.K. Businesses Are Worried About Brexit
D&B released the results of an independent study that shows the U.K. business community is concerned about the future after Brexit goes into effect. Growth or expansion plans in the U.K. have slowed for 19% of businesses, and 49% of senior financial decision makers say their business will invest less in the U.K. Additionally, 64% of businesses say Brexit has negatively impact their growth potential, and 59% say Brexit will be financially damaging.For more information, read the press release.
Wiley Updates Author Services Platform
Wiley launched a new Author Services website for those publishing with most of the company’s more than 1,600 journals. The website supports authors from submission to peer review and from acceptance to publication. Its enhancements are designed to simplify these processes, create a more intuitive user experience, and provide a cleaner interface. There is an Author Dashboard for tracking articles, the ability to make OA payments, an Author Licensing Service, and an Author Resource Center, among other updates.For more information, read the press release.
Reuters Distributes German News Agency Content
Reuters and the German news agency dpa (Deutsche Presse-Agentur GmbH) partnered to distribute dpa’s international content via the Reuters Connect platform. dpa’s English and Arabic newswire content will go to its clients outside of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and its multimedia content will be added to this deal in 2017.For more information, read the press release.
Digital Science Gives GRID a CC0 License
Digital Science released its GRID (Global Research Identifier Database) dataset under a Creative Commons CC0 license. GRID, a free online database, has information on more than 66,000 global research organizations, which data scientists, developers, and researchers within academic and commercial organizations can now use for free without attribution. Others may build on, enhance, and reuse GRID data for any purpose, including integration with other open datasets and software tools.For more information, read the press release.
Globalscape Facilitates Secure Information Exchange
Globalscape unveiled Enhanced File Transfer (EFT) Enterprise version 7.3.3, an information exchange platform that offers new and improved features such as the Advanced Authentication Module (AAM) and the Workspaces Outlook plug-in. AAM uses authentication methods that improve productivity while protecting data.
