Harvard University Press Goes Responsive; Renews With PubFactory
Harvard University Press extended its long-term agreement with PubFactory to host the Loeb Classical Library while it works on launching a fully responsive, mobile-optimized version of the library in early 2017. Hosting on PubFactory, whose publishing services have been adopted by Oxford University Press, De Gruyter, Brill, and others, allows the library to make its content accessible to a wide audience.For more information, read the press release.
Thomson Reuters Helps Financial Professionals Prepare for the Election
Thomson Reuters Eikon now includes an app that gives financial professionals access to market data, news, commentary, and analysis surrounding the U.S. election on Nov. 8. It features U.S.-specific and global analysis and visuals across segments such as foreign exchange, equities, fixed income, and commodities, as well as ongoing news commentary from Reuters and Chartbook content from Thomson Reuters Datastream.For more information, read the press release.
Google News Promotes Fact-Checking
Google News added a fact-check tag to identify fact-checking in large news stories (starting with U.S. and U.K. results). Tagged articles appear in the expanded story box on news.google.com and in Google News & Weather apps for iOS and Android devices. Publishers that want their fact-checks to appear with search results should use the schema.org ClaimReview markup in their fact-check articles.For more information, read the blog post.
Credo Provides Resource on Current Events
Credo introduced Issue Briefs for students doing research on current topics. The company will release three or four new briefs each week from Law Street Media, a law and policy site. There are now more than 450 briefs available. They feature unbiased reporting on topics such as politics, technology, healthcare, law, energy and the environment, and entertainment and culture. Alexander Street Gives Its Regards to Broadway
Alexander Street entered an exclusive partnership with BroadwayHD, which allows the company to offer university, faculty, and public libraries recordings of Broadway shows via its patron-driven acquisition (PDA) platform and single-title streaming direct subscriptions. SAGE Introduces Research Methods Video Collection
SAGE launched SAGE Research Methods Video, a collection of 480-plus streaming videos that helps students and researchers learn about the social science research process and develop research skill sets. It teaches topics such as research design, data collection, and statistical analysis through the use of animations, interviews, step-by-step tutorials, examples of focus groups, case studies, and other resources.For more information, read the press release.
Intraspexion Uses dtSearch Engine to Identify Litigation Risks
Intraspexion, a startup that uses deep learning algorithms to identify potential litigation risks, released an application that scans an organization’s email and other messaging data to find these potential risks and gives its in-house legal department an early warning. dtSearch Engine is providing email and attachment support with its ability to search terabytes of text (and a range of document types) instantly.For more information, read the press release.
CABI Debuts First OA Book
Nonprofit CABI (Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International) published its first OA book, Global Health Research in an Unequal World: Ethics Case Studies From Africa, a collection of fictionalized case studies on common ethical challenges that come up when doing global health research. ProQuest Rolls Out Results of Library Space Allocation Study
ProQuest surveyed more than 600 academic libraries about space reclamation and found that 82% consider it a priority now or in the future. Libraries are reclaiming their spaces in a variety of ways, with 25% developing makerspaces and hackerspaces. They also have to reallocate their budgets for print and digital materials. Only 6% have newly allocated ebook budgets.For more information, read the press release.
Ringgold Makes Access to ISNI Information Easier
Ringgold announced Open ISNI for Organizations, a free service that will provide access to ISNI (International Standard Name Identifier) information for organizations. The service features an API that helps organizations obtain and resolve existing ISNIs; the ability to download a complete dataset of ISNIs, organization names, locations, alternate names, and URLs; and a free way to search and obtain ISNI records. “Any dataset mapped to ISNIs, whether open or proprietary, can be linked together to provide interoperability between systems to benefit the entire scholarly community,” according to Ringgold’s press release. “In our capacity as an ISNI Registration Agency, we have created Open ISNI for Organizations as a conduit to ease access, increase adoption, and improve the utility of ISNI.”For more information, read the press release.
