Odilo Partners for Improved Ed Tech Solutions

Education companies Odilo and Claned have entered a partnership that will give Claned customers access to Odilo’s more than 1.1 million pieces of digital content from 900-plus global suppliers. Odilo customers will also have access to Claned’s artificial intelligence technology.

“ODILO offers almost every conceivable form of consumption of digital learning content, allowing [Claned users to] expand their sources of knowledge and resources, for example, borrowing e-books from our platform,” says Mervi Palander, CEO of Claned.

Wikiverse Reaches for the Stars

Wikiverse, a new interactive 3D website, aims to turn a Wikipedia search into an outer space experience. It presents “constellations” of related topics, such as nature, literature, and history. Users can zoom in to a constellation and click on a “star,” which will allow them to read a Wikipedia entry. They can choose to search 1% of Wikipedia (50,000 articles), 2% (100,000 articles), or 5% (250,000 articles).

bibliotheca Teams Up With Living Language

bibliotheca has entered a partnership with Living Language, an imprint of Penguin Random House, to exclusively distribute that company’s digital language-learning courses to public libraries. Living Language offers a catalog of more than 40 language courses that include ESL, business, and conversational lessons. Along with general language courses, it provides specialized on-the-job modules specifically for librarians, business travelers, law enforcement professionals, and healthcare workers.

dtSearch Corp. Updates Software Development Kit

dtSearch Corp. released new x86 and x64 beta versions of its core developer product, dtSearch Engine, for Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform (UWP). dtSearch Engine’s software development kit (SDK) allows users to embed dtSearch’s instant searching of terabytes of data and offers more than 25 full-text and metadata search options. The SDK also provides access to the dtSearch document filters for emails and attachments, databases, a broad range of document types, and other website data for UWP developers working in C#, C++, and other languages.

Gale Introduces New Primary Sources Collection

Gale and Smithsonian are launching Smithsonian Primary Sources in U.S. History, a collection of 1,800 digital primary sources, including documents, maps, and historical objects from the Smithsonian’s museums and archives, as well as from Gale’s collections. Primary source images are curated by Smithsonian scholars, and the content is aligned to curricula by Gale’s editorial staff.

CAS Will Release Chemistry and Scientific Information Finder

CAS, a division of the American Chemical Society (ACS), announced that it will release its SciFindern research tool in spring 2017. SciFindern will offer new content, enhanced functionality, and improved workflow features. It will be produced by CAS scientists who will evaluate and organize chemistry and scientific information. Enhanced tools will help users leverage information to speed up the process of analyzing search results. Users will be able to advance new information, validate research, and eliminate irrelevant ideas.

Thomson Reuters Introduces New Asia Apps

Thomson Reuters released the first two Asia apps on its Eikon App Studio in partnership with Amareos and Oddup, which are both based in Hong Kong. This is the first time that an Asia-based third-party developer has created an app within Eikon and distributed it directly to users around the world. Amareos’ app offers news and sentiment analytics presented in easy-to-understand metrics and graphs. It analyzes more than 2 million articles a day from news sources, blogs, forums, and social media platforms. The Oddup app helps investors and researchers learn more about startups in Asia.

OpenAthens Announces Details of First Customer Conference

OpenAthens announced the venue and agenda for the first OpenAthens Customer Conference. It will be held Nov. 9, 2016, at the NEC in Birmingham, U.K., under the theme of Creating Connections. Participants will include information professionals and technical experts from the fields of healthcare, academia, business, and publishing. They will talk about the challenges and opportunities for organizations in the context of identity and access management (IAM). The keynote address will be given by Tracy Gardner from Simon Inger Consulting and will highlight how readers discover content. The event will include breakout sessions on mapping end-user experiences, roundtable sessions, and discussion of the development road map.

Wiley Acquires Publishing Software Company

Wiley announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to buy Atypon, a publishing software company, for $120 million in cash. Atypon helps scholarly societies and publishers deliver, host, enhance, market, and manage their online content. It will be run as a separate business unit within Wiley. The deal is expected to close Oct. 1, 2016.

SAGE Offers New Survey Guide

SAGE introduced The SAGE Handbook of Survey Methodology, a guide for conducting survey research studies. It examines local and national survey methods and helps readers solve problems that arise with cross-national comparative survey research. The book is organized into nine sections, each corresponding to a given stage in the lifecycle of a survey.
