RedLink Network Goes Live

RedLink, Inc. launched RedLink Network, a free intellectual property (IP) registry service that is designed to help libraries and publishers deliver secure, reliable access to subscription content via IP-based authentication. It also supports consortial hierarchies, link resolvers, and Shibboleth authentication, as well as branding for publishers and institutions.

ScienceOpen to Host Brill Journals

International scholarly publisher Brill and ScienceOpen launched a pilot program to index three of Brill’s linguistics journals on ScienceOpen by September 2016: Language Dynamics and Change, Journal of Greek Linguistics, and Indo-European Linguistics. ScienceOpen offers article-level metadata, reference analysis, and linking back to the Brill Online Books and Journals platform. Additionally, the journals will show usage data from Altmetric on how and where articles are being discussed, mentioned, and shared online.

CCC Rolls Out New RightFind Solution

Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) launched RightFind Content Decision Support, a cloud-based analytics platform to help information center managers make data-driven decisions about their content investments. It offers comprehensive usage and spend data from aggregated data sources, predictive analytics and data visualizations, and budget forecast and planning tools. Information center managers can use the solution to create presentations about content’s ROI for key stakeholders, identify coverage gaps and usage trends to prove the value of an organization’s investments, and shorten the annual budget cycle with its forecast and planning tools.

Wolters Kluwer Offers Zika Resources

The Health division of Wolters Kluwer introduced the Zika Resource Portal, which provides a single point of access to clinical knowledge and current information about the Zika virus from Wolters Kluwer, the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and the WHO (World Health Organization). To complement this portal, Wolters Kluwer launched a digital educational campaign in which Zika experts share the latest findings in multiple formats, including podcasts, journal articles, blogs, and interactive videos. The public can view the symptoms of and preventive measures for the virus.

Adam Matthew Plans Shakespeare's Globe Collection

Adam Matthew announced that it will digitize the majority of Shakespeare’s Globe’s archives, which come from the reconstructed Globe Theatre in London. The collection, Shakespeare’s Globe: Performances and Practices, will include materials relevant to the studies of Shakespeare, literature, theater, and performance. These include prompt books, costume sketches, music files, audience reports, programs, photos, and architectural research notes. The collection will be published in spring 2019.

Thomson Reuters' Eikon Messenger Reports Growth

Thomson Reuters’ Eikon Messenger had an increase in account registrations following Yahoo’s discontinuation of its legacy messaging and API service on Aug. 5, 2016. Energy companies and brokers around the world have endorsed Thomson Reuters’ product for its compliance and messaging capabilities.

“The number of Eikon Messenger users connecting with counterparts on Yahoo Messenger has grown by 115% over the last quarter as many commodity and energy market participants encourage their counterparts to join them on Eikon Messenger ahead of the Yahoo deadline,” according to the press release. The Eikon Messenger Directory has experienced 7% growth, with roughly 300,000 users in 180 countries.

IMLS Releases Tools for Analyzing Public Library Data

IMLS (Institute of Museum and Library Services) published the data for its “FY 2014 Public Libraries Survey” along with online visualizations and tools for analyzing it. The survey, a national census of public libraries in the U.S., collects data from about 9,000 library systems to show the statuses of and trends in these organizations, including for library visits, circulation, collection size, and operating revenues and expenditures. This edition of the survey added the number of Wi-Fi sessions libraries provide annually.

FileHold Improves Secure Document Transmission

dtSearch Corp. and FileHold Systems, Inc. announced the addition of Courier (which provides secure electronic document transmission) to the FileHold document management suite. With this new feature, users can send documents to any email address, regardless of whether it is inside the FileHold system, for review and approval by customers, trading partners, suppliers, and employees. FileHold uses the dtSearch Engine for full-text searching inside its system.

1science Debuts Large-Scale OA Study

1science published the first results of the largest existing study on the impact of more than 3 million OA papers from diverse sources. After studying nearly 35 million citations, it finds that OA papers have a 50% greater citation advantage than traditionally published papers in subscription-based journals (meaning these papers could lose their relevance for researchers and governments). However, OA papers “still [suffer] from the effect of embargoes enforced by traditional publishers who maintain that they require that delay to keep the subscription model alive,” according to the press release.

Innovative and Talis Team Up to Help Academic Libraries

Innovative joined forces with Talis to provide improved experiences for students when connecting with libraries’ physical and digital collections and to offer better workflow efficiencies for using course reserves and managing reading lists to academic libraries. Innovative and Talis will further integrate their solutions. “As academic library requirements change—and new opportunities for library success within the academic environment emerge—such cooperation will enhance the value libraries take away from both companies’ product offerings,” according to the press release.
