Royal Geographical Society Publication Gets Digital Archive
Exact Editions partnered with the Royal Geographical Society to launch a collection of the society’s official magazine, Geographical. Now every issue from the magazine’s 81 years of publication is available digitally via the Exact Editions website or app. Users can browse more than 600 issues on their computer or mobile device covering challenges “faced by people across the globe,” with topics such as history, economics, sports, and leisure.For more information, read the press release.
CCC Enhances RightFind Enterprise
Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) updated its RightFind Enterprise content workflow solution to version 7.0. The new features focus on increased speed and choice for customers and include the following:- An updated user interface to simplify workflows and make it easier to search and find content.
- A CrossRef data feed to accelerate the pace at which newly published citations are available in RightFind.
- Two new APIs allowing customers to extract information from RightFind collections, so they can search holdings using other applications.

European Union Nears New Decision About E-Lending
The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) released a statement in support of a recent opinion from the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union, which states that the rules allowing libraries to loan physical books also should apply to ebooks. “If the judges subsequently endorse this view, it will not only establish a right to eLend, but also put an end to a situation where authors see little benefit from readers’ appetite for eBooks,” according to IFLA’s statement.For more information, read the statement.
ProQuest Increases Its Primary Source Documents
In 2016, ProQuest is adding nearly 30 million pages of digitized primary source content to its Historical Collections program, which features newspapers, periodicals, books, and other sources dating from 1455 to the present. The content includes additions to the News, Policy & Politics Magazine Archive; Module 3 of the Historical Statistical Abstracts of the United States (1878–1928); declassified government documents from the National Security Archive, and documents from the U.S. State Department and the FBI.For more information, read the press release. Springer Nature Debuts Resource on Nanotechnology
Springer Nature launched Nano, a research solution combining features from a database and an abstracting-and-indexing discovery tool. It provides highly indexed and structured information on nanotechnology—more than 200,000 manually curated profiles of nanomaterials and devices—from journals and patents. Part of the new Nature Research portfolio, Nano is designed for researchers in academic, corporate, and government environments.For more information, read the press release.
What's New at Odilo
Odilo announced new content, customers, publishing partners, and resources. The new content includes 50,000-plus e-audiobooks from Findaway, popular Spanish-language magazines and newspapers, and more than 50,000 Chinese best-sellers. New customers include libraries from Virginia, Texas, and Spain, and its marketplace has titles from 600 publishers. Odilo increased its resources for consortia and created an eBookClub offering live chat sessions and online discussions, as well as shared annotations for the featured title.For more information, read the press release.
Thomson Reuters Eikon Adds Real-Time ESG Analysis
Thomson Reuters Eikon now has an enhanced environmental, social, and governance (ESG) application that allows users to analyze real-time ESG data and incorporate it into socially responsible investment decisions. Created in response to new regulations and the rise of socially responsible investing, this application integrates information from Insight360’s real-time ESG signals into Eikon’s existing ESG offering.For more information, read the press release.
bibliotheca Focuses Its Product Portfolio
bibliotheca announced a new product set that will combine features from those in the original bibliotheca and 3M Library Systems to create a more focused portfolio of self-service offerings, cloud technology, and staff efficiency solutions. For example, bibliotheca expanded the quickConnect software to all self-service products. The company also created a dedicated, single-access portal for managing all of its solutions from the new portfolio, including the newly designed libraryConnect resource.For more information, read the press release.
CRL Opens PAPR Dashboard for Public Comment
The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) added a dashboard to the Print Archives Preservation Registry (PAPR) system, which supports the archiving and management of serials collections. The dashboard is now in beta, and CRL is soliciting feedback (email Amy Wood, director of technical services, at awood@crl.edu). It will help users measure the scope and progress of North American print archives via the following features:- A comparison of the number of print titles registered as archived, to the known output of print serials publication;
- A breakdown of titles preserved, by major subject classification;
- An indication of the amount of redundancy of titles held by multiple repositories;
- “Trust metrics,” or information about the policies and practices of archiving efforts, such as the level of holdings validation, the degree to which archiving commitments are formalized, and the depth of program services and resources.

ScienceOpen and SciELO Join Forces
ScienceOpen teamed up with SciELO to fully integrate all of SciELO’s open access (OA) content into the ScienceOpen research network to provide a more global perspective on scientific literature. This integration brings ScienceOpen’s collection to more than 2.2 million OA articles, and the organization will have more than 15 million article records when fully integrated with SciELO. The new SciELO content will show usage data from Altmetric for online sources such as news outlets, blogs, and social networks.For more information, read the press release.
