Thomson Reuters Introduces Precision Medicine Intelligence
The Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters launched Precision Medicine Intelligence, a new evidence-based solution that helps scientists and physicians keep up with scientific and medical literature through an API and partner platforms. Its structured database of clinical outcomes—from sources such as full-text peer-reviewed journals, clinical guidelines, clinical trials, and regulatory drug approvals—is designed to facilitate the interpretation of molecular test results and deepen genomics knowledge so it can be translated into clinically actionable insights.For more information, read the press release.
PBS LearningMedia Adds Access to DPLA Primary Sources
All of the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) Primary Source Sets are now accessible via PBS LearningMedia, which gives educators 100 sets to view, save, and combine with PBS LearningMedia’s 100,000 videos, images, pieces of interactive content, lesson plans, and articles. They can also navigate the sets using the collection page, as well as search by subject area, including U.S. history, literature, and science and technology. DPLA aims to make its primary sources more discoverable and accessible to everyone by introducing new audiences to them and to its cultural heritage collections contributed by its network of institutions.For more information, read the press release.
SLA Honors John Cotton Dana Award Recipients
At the Special Libraries Association (SLA) conference, to be held June 12–14, 2016, James Matarazzo and Toby Pearlstein will receive the John Cotton Dana Award, which is named for SLA’s founder and first president. Matarazzo (dean and professor emeritus of Simmons College’s School of Library and Information Science) and Pearlstein (former director of global information services at Bain & Co.) have made substantial contributions to corporate librarianship through their continued research on and writings about the value of corporate and special libraries.For more information, read the press release.
Lexis Search Advantage Integrates With BA Insight Products
LexisNexis Legal & Professional partnered with BA Insight to integrate Lexis Search Advantage into law firms’ SharePoint environments using BA Insight’s Software Portfolio, including products such as Visual Refiners, Smart Previews, and Expertise Locator. This strategic alliance helps legal professionals optimize the research, drafting, and review processes by layering Lexis Search Advantage’s capabilities on top of BA Insight’s knowledge management systems. IFLA Asks for Responses to EU Ancillary Copyright Consultation
Stephen Wyber, the policy and research officer for the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), sent a message to the IFLA community to alert European members to the European Union (EU) consultation on “the role of publishers in the copyright value chain,” aka ancillary copyright. He asks for responses to a survey about “a number of recurring demands from certain lobbies in the EU,” including the ideas that news aggregators should pay publishers for the right to link to stories, publishers should get a share of the revenue from levies for copying, and rightsholders should be compensated when images feature artwork that is permanently sited in public spaces.“We should take this opportunity to express our concerns regarding any new provisions in EU law which could restrict access to knowledge,” he writes. Choice Reviews Offers Enhanced Tools for Evaluating Sources
Choice launched Choice Reviews, the redesigned version of Choice Reviews Online. This service features an intuitive user interface, enhanced search and discovery features, and data management tools to help librarians, faculty members, and patrons identify the best sources for research projects, classroom assignments, and other tasks. Alexander Street Partners for Documentary Content
Alexander Street announced that Docuseek2 documentary films are now available on its platform. The Docuseek2 Collection of more than 800 films is cross-searchable with existing Alexander Street collections. It also includes tools for making clips and playlists and recording citations. Thomson Reuters Brings Its Ebook Platform to Turkey
The Thomson Reuters ProView ebook platform expanded into professional and academic sectors in Turkey. ProView, with ebooks currently published in six languages, provides full-text searching, secured notes and highlights, and content sharing and updating capabilities. LearningExpress updated Job & Career Accelerator to version 5.0. SirsiDynix and Altarama Plan Closer Integration
SirsiDynix signed a distribution agreement with Altarama to allow SirsiDynix clients to purchase Altarama’s RefTracker and DeskStats systems as part of their existing ILS agreements. These reference management modules will be more closely integrated with SirsiDynix platforms, especially with ILS functionality for staffers as well as with patron portals.
