Forbes Announces Customer Experience Report

Forbes Insights and SAS released a new report, “Data Elevates the Customer Experience: New Ways of Discovering and Applying Customer Insights,” which states that brands benefit from using data-driven customer experiences. These benefits include enhanced revenue generation, cost reductions, and quality improvements. They can use data to target specific customers and optimize customer experiences, as well as deliver consistency and context throughout all of their channels.

CCC Acquires Content Management Leader

Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) acquired Ixxus, a provider of publishing solutions that has offices in the U.K., the U.S., Spain, and Romania. It becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of CCC. The two companies have expertise in complementary areas—Ixxus in content management and CCC in rights management—and will work together to create new product offerings.

IEEE Acquires GlobalSpec

IEEE acquired the GlobalSpec news, data, and analytics platform, including its Engineering360 brand, from IHS. It is now a for-profit subsidiary of IEEE and was renamed IEEE GlobalSpec, Inc. This transaction supplements IEEE’s offerings for engineers, particularly in the area of research analytics. GlobalSpec is a multimedia platform composed of editorial and technical content for industry-based engineers, technical professionals, manufacturers, distributors, and service providers who do technical research, product design, and purchasing.

dtSearch Corp. Collaborates on Academic Research

EPI-Search (the search access provider for the Institute for the Study of Coherence and Emergence library), dtSearch Corp., and Contegra Systems joined forces to create a new approach to academic research. Contegra Systems integrated the dtSearch Engine into EPI-Search by leveraging the library’s SQL metadata and original book text to find conceptually similar items. Academic researchers can enter a block of text into EPI-Search as a query to retrieve a conceptual word cloud of the most valuable terms. Then, the dtSearch Engine queries related results across the library’s SQL metadata and the full text of books. EPI-Search allows the parsed query to be automatically submitted to other library sites.

Chegg Acquires Writing Tools Provider

Chegg acquired Imagine Easy Solutions, the provider of EasyBib and other online writing tools that help its more than 7 million users keep track of citations, create bibliographies, and more. Chegg will now be able to serve students who need writing assistance, especially those in remedial writing classes, and Imagine Easy Solutions will now be able to accelerate its plans for delivering a complete suite of writing tools.

EBSCO Improves Discoverability of OA Content

EBSCO Information Services partnered with 1science to bring more open access (OA) scholarly articles to academic libraries via EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). Clients of both companies will have access to more than 15.5 million OA papers in EDS. Additionally, 1science’s oaFindr tool, which allows library patrons to find and directly download OA articles with one click, is now available through EDS.

LexisNexis Adds Search Visualizations to Lexis Advance

LexisNexis Legal & Professional updated Lexis Advance with Search Term Maps, an exclusive, patent-pending data visualization tool that maps search terms in full-text case law documents by providing a visual overview of the location and clustering of search words. Users will be able to find the most relevant case for their project, assess search results’ relevance, and quickly navigate individual documents. They can use either natural language or Boolean search. Search Term Maps is currently in limited release; a complete rollout as core Lexis Advance functionality is planned for summer 2016.

figshare Integrates Altmetric Badges

figshare added Altmetric badges to its collection of more than 2.5 million research outputs. Altmetric will supply real-time attention data—comments, shares, and discussions, etc.—for datasets, videos, images, and other alternative outputs on figshare’s platform. figshare and Altmetric are both part of Digital Science.

Wolters Kluwer Adds Cheetah Functionality

Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory rolled out Cheetah for Tax Law, an update to its Cheetah platform, for tax attorneys and practitioners. It features authoritative content, expert analysis, practice tools, and current awareness of today’s challenging tax issues. Users can access contextual results quickly, access relevant sections of the Tax Code with one click, find information for specific practice areas, and use the platform on any device.

InfoDesk Introduces Blog for Consultants

InfoDesk launched the InfoDesk Consulting Industry Blog, which helps professional services consultants monitor their industry information, such as disruptive technologies, finance and technology news, and other global market trends. It will offer actionable intelligence, such as summaries of business news and information from credible sources, as well as competitive intelligence. Recent articles have included “Understanding Influencer Marketing—A Resource Guide for Consultants” and “The Best Ways to Discover Financial Technology Disruptors.”
