Gale Plans Launch of Gender and Sexuality Archives

Gale created an advisory board of leading scholars and librarians in sexuality and gender studies for the upcoming three-part digital program Archives of Human Sexuality and Identity, which will bring together primary sources on gender, sexuality, and identity. The members of the board will help select the archives’ contents and inform their development.

The first part of the program, launching in March, is LGBTQ History and Culture Since 1940. It will feature nearly 2 million pages of content such as microfilm, newsletters, organizational papers, government documents, manuscripts, and pamphlets.

SirsiDynix Rolls Out Web-Visibility Product

SirsiDynix released BLUEcloud Visibility, which helps libraries leverage the power of search engines to make their resources discoverable on the open web. This new BLUEcloud product turns MARC data into resources that can be easily found, accessed, and used when performing research via search engine. It pairs catalog data with physical library locations so searchers will see results that point directly to the library.

SirsiDynix worked with Zepheira to launch BLUEcloud Visibility for its worldwide customers.

ByWater Solutions and EBSCO Host Webinar

ByWater Solutions and EBSCO Information Services will offer a free, 1-hour webinar, Why We Fit Your Library, on Jan. 21, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. EST to share how libraries can use their tools together (ByWater’s Koha services and EBSCO’s discovery technology) to provide services to patrons. Nicole C. Engard, VP of community outreach at ByWater, and Gar Sydnor, VP of discovery innovation, public libraries, and K–12 schools at EBSCO, will be the speakers.

EBSCO Gives Libraries Incentives to Step Toward Solar

EBSCO Information Services created a grant initiative (totaling $150,000) to help libraries adopt solar power. Part of EBSCO Solar, the grant will give one or more U.S. libraries the opportunity to fund solar installations that will reduce their utilities expenditures and, if permitted in their state, sell back electricity to the grid. Submissions are due by April 29, 2016. The winning library (or libraries) will be announced during the American Library Association’s (ALA) annual conference.

Gale Offers Libraries Interactive Science Products for Students

Gale launched three new science products for academic and school libraries that are designed to help students understand science beyond simply reading their textbooks. They combine Gale’s curriculum-aligned reference content with Cyber Science 3D’s interactive 3D models, which each allow users to zoom, rotate, and explore individual components. Two of the products are geared to the academic market, and they cover human anatomy and chemistry. The third—covering multiple science topics—can be used in introductory college science courses as a refresher or in high schools as a basic learning tool. The 3D models require tools such as an interactive whiteboard or a 3D projector. The products are also available as web-based 2D experiences.

Cipher Rolls Out Competitive Intelligence Solution

Cipher introduced Knowledge360, its new competitive intelligence and knowledge management software. Companies of all sizes can use it to gather, organize, and analyze information—leading to smarter and faster decision making. A subscription-based, scalable solution, Knowledge360 features a customizable portal that integrates premium data sources with a company’s own internal files as well as offers drag-and-drop widgets. Users can also view, edit, create, and share analytics from the portal and create presentation-ready reports.

New Cybersecurity-Training Company Debuts

Graham Holdings Co., which owns Kaplan, announced the creation of CyberVista, a new company focused on cybersecurity education and workforce development. It will implement personalized training programs to give organizations the staff, knowledge, and skills necessary for cybersecurity. Drawing on Kaplan’s expertise in personalized learning, assessment, and online delivery, CyberVista will offer curricula developed by cyber-intelligence professionals.

Its first product offering is a program that gives corporate board members and executives a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity issues that affect their organizations and business risk and provides tools to oversee and manage those risks. In the future, CyberVista will introduce a cybersecurity certification program for practitioners and IT professionals.

CCC Integrates Altmetric Data Into RightFind Enterprise

Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) partnered with Altmetric to integrate Altmetric data into CCC’s RightFind Enterprise content workflow solution, which provides access to STM content. The partnership is starting as a pilot program with several customers. Altmetric data is used to see a complete picture of how policymakers, academics, and the public engage with scholarly outputs via sources such as mainstream and social media, as well as blogs and Wikipedia.

Alexander Street Introduces OA Resources

Alexander Street announced three freely accessible online resources in the topics of video, anthropology, and music. The Video Commons, now available, is a media hosting service for libraries. They can use it to upload open access (OA), locally produced videos such as lectures, interviews, and performances. Available in March, the Anthropology Commons and the Open Music Library (OML) are OA repositories of primary sources in anthropology and digital resources for the study of music, respectively.

OCLC Partners With New Publishers for WorldCat Discovery Services

OCLC signed agreements with publishers to make their content discoverable through WorldCat Discovery Services, including Netherlands-based Adfo Group, ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers), Artstor, Spain-based Odilo, and Wolters Kluwer. They will provide metadata for books, ebooks, journals, databases, and other materials. OCLC has agreements with more than 200 publishers and information providers to receive their metadata.
