ACS Introduces Mobile Content Delivery Solution
ACS Publications, a division of ACS (American Chemical Society), launched its ACS2Go mobile content delivery solution to enrich the reading and browsing experience for ACS’s journals, ebooks, archives, and style guide. Authorized users from subscribing institutions can use it to access the entire content of ACS Publications’ web platform via a mobile-optimized interface.iOS, Android, and BlackBerry device users can navigate magazine-style presentations of journals’ tables of contents, as well as access figures, references, supporting information files, and full-text PDF documents quickly from within article layouts. NFAIS Workshop Will Share Tips on Content Platforms
The National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS) will host a workshop on June 18, 2015, at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. Platforms That Perform: Taking Your Content to the Next Level is designed to offer strategies for selecting, adopting, and migrating to new platforms for hosting and disseminating their research content.Speakers will include experts from government, nonprofit organizations, and publishing houses who will share their experiences with implementing new platforms for their users. Charleston Conference Registration Opens
Registration for the 2015 Charleston Conference is now open. The event, which will be held in Charleston, S.C., from Nov. 4 to 7, will take place at the Francis Marion Hotel, as well as at the Marriott’s Courtyard Charleston Historic District Hotel, the Embassy Suites Charleston-Historic Charleston, and the new Gaillard Center.“The Charleston Conference allows us to network, to talk as well as listen to each other,” says Katina Strauch, the conference’s founder, “and to share new approaches and ideas. ProQuest Rolls Out Genealogy Resource
ProQuest added Ancestry.com’s Fold3 Library Edition to its line of family history products. It features more than 440 million U.S. military records dating from the Revolutionary War that library patrons can use to learn about veterans through their stories, photos, and personal documents.Personalization tools in Fold3 Library Edition include options to build memorial pages, submit image annotations, and leave comments. LexisNexis Updates Lexis Advance; Adds Tool for Tax Professionals
LexisNexis Legal & Professional introduced new tools and enhancements for Lexis Advance, such as Lexis Advance Practice Pages (centralized resources that provide one-click access to practice area assets and additional tools). Practice Pages launched with Banking and Financial Services, Energy, and state-specific jurisdictional pages, with other topics coming soon. Lexis Advance also gained improved search, browse, and delivery functions as well as an optimized experience for mobile and desktop users.Lexis Advance Tax, a resource for accounting and estate-planning professionals, is another new product. GODAN and the Open Data Institute Promote Agricultural Open Data
The GODAN (Global Open Data in Agriculture and Nutrition) initiative and the Open Data Institute released the “How Can We Improve Agriculture, Food and Nutrition With Open Data?” report, which shows how open data can enable more effective decision making in various contexts, foster innovation, and promote transparency.GODAN’s goal is to promote a better understanding of how open data can help improve food security and offer better nutrition worldwide by delivering sustainably produced food, reducing waste, and controlling pests and diseases. SAGE Acquires Journals Publisher
SAGE Publications acquired Pion Ltd., an independent academic journals publisher. Pion’s portfolio—four journals in the Environment and Planning series, Perception, and i-Perception as well as a small list of books—will become part of SAGE’s journal program.“Pion and SAGE have had a long established partnership working on shared projects, and through this we have seen the clear synergies both in our commitment to the publication of high quality interdisciplinary research and our approach to fulfilling our publishing goals. 3M Cloud Library Provides Enhancements for Patrons and Librarians
3M Library Systems added enhancements to its 3M Cloud Library: a redesigned web patron interface for easier browsing and the ability for librarians to reclassify ebooks’ age ranges (e.g., move a Young Adult title from the Children’s section).“This is a feature that our libraries are very excited about and supports our mission of providing libraries the tools to customize their eBook platform to meet the needs of their community,” says Tom Mercer, 3M Cloud Library’s marketing manager. Adam Matthew Rereleases Victorian Archive
Adam Matthew relaunched its Victorian Popular Culture portal, which offers access to rare and unique primary sources related to popular entertainment in the U.S., the U.K., and Europe from 1779 to 1930. The collection is offered on a new platform with revised metadata, increased searching capabilities, interactive chronology, transcribed song recordings, and other updated functionality.Four modules make up the collection: Spiritualism, Sensation and Magic; Circuses, Sideshows and Freaks; Music Hall, Theatre and Popular Entertainment; and Moving Pictures, Optical Entertainments and the Advent of Cinema. Credo Updates Its Collections
Credo added content to its new Essentials Collections of curated, award-winning reference titles in subjects such as criminal justice, nursing, and psychology. These collections, along with updated Publisher and Subject collections, help libraries consolidate their reference purchases to a single platform.Additionally, Credo updated its Academic Core Collection with nearly 500 videos and more than 85,000 images from sources including INTELECOM Intelligent Telecommunications’ National Geographic Collection.
