EBSCO Resources Integrate EasyBib Option
Users of EBSCO Information Services’ resources can now directly export citations from EBSCO to their EasyBib accounts. They select an article (from an EBSCO database or historical archive or from EBSCO Discovery Service) that they want to cite and click the EasyBib option to export the citation. This process makes it easy for researchers to give proper credit to their sources and reinforces good research habits, according to Harry Kaplanian, EBSCO’s senior director of product management.“Our commitment to providing the best citation and research management tool is further improved with this recent integration,” says Neal Taparia, EasyBib’s co-CEO and co-founder. “As one of the foremost database and discovery technologies in the world, EBSCO is an ideal partner in our goal to provide the best tools and resources to educators worldwide.” Source: EBSCO Information Services
White House Takes New Step Toward Transparency
On Nov. 26, President Barack Obama signed the Presidential and Federal Records Act Amendments of 2014, a bill that amends the Presidential Records Act. This new law establishes “procedures for the consideration of claims of constitutionally based privilege against disclosure of Presidential records. …”According to POLITICO, government lawyers will no longer be able to extend “the review of records of prior presidents that the National Archives has designated for release.” Now, presidents affected by the records have 60 business days to review them before the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) makes them public. NARA must give public notice of planned presidential records releases at the same time they are sent to the affected president for review. Source: The White House
Findaway World Debuts Air Force E-Reader
Findaway World partnered with the U.S. Air Force to create the Air Force Library eReader device, or AERO, a secure e-reader for airmen and -women and their families. Findaway World will deliver the AEROs—with a catalog of preloaded ebooks, including best-sellers, classics, and professional development titles chosen by the Air Force Library Program (AFLP)—to 19 Air Force libraries around the world.The AERO augments AFLP services by increasing its libraries’ catalog sizes without taking up extra physical space or requiring additional staff training.

LexisNexis Continues Its Partnership With U.S. Judiciary System
The Administrative Office of the United States Courts awarded LexisNexis Legal & Professional a 5-year contract to continue providing the courts, federal defenders, and probation and pretrial offices across the country with access to LexisNexis’ proprietary and exclusive content, tools, resources, and workflow solutions. This includes primary and secondary legal, nonlegal, news, and public records content.The contract grants access to more than 10,000 judiciary researchers and staff members, such as judges, law clerks, court research librarians, and interns. Federal judiciary researchers will also have access to LexisNexis Matthew Bender treatises, the A.S. Pratt and Sheshunoff research solutions, and other mission critical content. UNESCO's Creative Cities Network Gains Members
UNESCO announced that 28 cities from 19 countries joined its Creative Cities Network (CCN), which aims to foster cooperation among cities around the world that invest in creativity as a driver for sustainable developments. When cities join the CCN, they commit to collaboration and development on the promotion of creativity, cultural industries, and participation in cultural life; the integration of culture into economic and social development plans; and the sharing of best practices.Irina Bokova, UNESCO’s director-general, designated these cities as CCN members, bringing the member total to 69. They include Dakar, Senegal; Florianopolis, Brazil; Galway, Ireland; Heidelberg, Germany; Nassau, Bahamas; Turin, Italy; and Suzhou, China. “The UNESCO Creative Cities Network is a tremendous tool for cooperation, it reflects our commitment to support an amazing creative and innovative potential to broaden the avenues of sustainable development,” says Bokova. Macmillan Science and Education Grants Access to NPG Journals
Macmillan Science and Education launched a publishing initiative that allows subscribers to 49 Nature Publishing Group (NPG) journals to share the full text of articles with other (non-subscribing) researchers around the world. Researchers can share this read-only content via a link on NPG’s website that can be distributed through email and social media. More than 6,000 universities and organizations will make this option available to their scientists and students. Annotation functionality (comments and highlights, etc.) will be available soon.Additionally, Macmillan Science and Education gives 100 global media outlets and blogs that report on NPG articles’ findings access to the same content. These outlets will be able to provide their readers with links to full-text, read-only versions of the scientific articles. Source: Nature Publishing Group
SAGE Takes Over Publication of ILR Journal
SAGE Publications announced that it is now publishing ILR Review, the official publication of the ILR (Industrial and Labor Relations) School at Cornell University. The July and October 2014 issues of ILR Review are available for free through Dec. 31, 2014.ILR Review features peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary articles that focus on theoretical and empirical research about work and employment relations. It covers topics such as globalization, unemployment, and pay inequalities. Beginning in 2015, it will be published five times per year. “SAGE welcomes the opportunity to publish a journal that has improved work and employment relations for 67 years,” says Bob Howard, VP of U.S. journals at SAGE. “We are confident that as its new publisher, we will be able to assist … the Cornell ILR School in expanding its readership to an even broader community of labor and employment scholars.” Source: SAGE Publications
