Every library innovates in its own way based on its resources, patron demographics, and funding. At the ALA Annual Conference and Exhibition, these projects are celebrated during an awards ceremony. Information Today, Inc. is one of the companies sponsoring an award, and this year, it went to an initiative that promotes gamified STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) learning for young patrons.

Battles With Elsevier Over Fair Treatment Continue

Enago Academy reports that four major institutions in Berlin have canceled their contracts with Elsevier. These German universities are supporting the DEAL project, which aims to negotiate with Elsevier for fair publishing charges, making publications from German institutions automatically OA, and giving all DEAL institutions permanent full-text access to Elsevier ejournals.

At its annual World Library and Information Congress (WLIC), held in Wroclaw, Poland, in August 2017, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) began the voting period for individuals to contribute to the Global Vision discussion, which is an attempt "to explore how a connected library field can meet the challenges of the future."
