Happy new year! As we ring in 2017 and look forward to what is sure to be another eventful year for libraries, information professionals, and information services, it's time to reflect on the major industry happenings in 2016. Here's an overview of the topics NewsBreaks covered in the past year.

Judith Russell Selected for 2017 Miles Conrad Award

The National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS) announced that Judith Russell, the dean of university libraries at the University of Florida, will give the Miles Conrad Memorial Lecture at its annual conference, which will be held Feb. 26-28, 2017.

ProQuest Shares Information Literacy Survey Results

ProQuest published a report on the results of its information literacy-focused survey of 200-plus librarians from university, community college, high school, and public libraries. It finds that 97% of respondents say having an information literacy skill set contributes to workplace success.

Innovative Creates Android Version of MyLibrary! App

Innovative introduced MyLibrary! Release 2.0, which expands its app to Android devices as well as iOS ones, allowing it to reach a wider audience. This second release also provides new ways for libraries to interact with their patrons via social media.

VR First Provides Virtual Reality Survey Results

|
VR First revealed the results of its survey of 151 universities in 38 countries, which show that there has been a worldwide increase in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) adoption at universities.

hoopla Increases Circulation of Its Content
|
|
hoopla added thousands of ebooks and audiobooks to its collection from new publisher partners, including ABRAMS, Britannica Digital Learning, and Sourcebooks. The company also announced that the circulation of content has more than doubled in the past year.
