WIPO Considers Changes to Broadcasting Copyrights

From June 30 to July 4, the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) met in order to discuss its Treaty on the Protection of Broadcasting Organizations, which could be enforced by 2015.

Altmetric Enhances Wiley's Journal Program
Wiley agreed to add Altmetric's article-level metrics data to its journals after a successful 6-month pilot conducted with Wiley Open Access titles. By the end of July, all Wiley journals will be available with data collected and analyzed by Altmetric: article mentions from social media, online reference managers, post-publication peer-review sites, public policy documents, and traditional media.
IGI Global Introduces Human Resources Book Collection
IGI Global released Human Resources and Organizational Efficiency, a new topic collection that covers human resources and capital management, organizational agility and development, personnel management, and workplace diversity.
International Organizations Ask Elsevier to Withdraw TDM Policy
LIBER (Association of European Research Libraries), along with 17 other international library and research organizations, submitted an open letter to Elsevier asking the company to abandon its text and data mining (TDM) policy because it "places unnecessary restrictions on researchers. It limits their ability, and their right, to mine content to which they have legal access."

Streaming Video in Public Libraries

In the beginning, libraries lent books. Fast-forward to the present day, and patrons can borrow all kinds of things from the library, including books, ebooks, audiobooks, CDs, and DVDs. The newest available format for patrons is streaming video, which is quickly gaining traction in public libraries across the country. Several librarians shared their experiences with streaming video lending, so institutions thinking about implementing their own programs know what to expect.
