Who's Who in Ebook Subscription Services

If you need a less expensive way to feed your e-reading habit than purchasing one title at a time at full price, you can opt to sign up for one of the ebook subscription services that have been gaining attention in the marketplace. These services offer a selection of ebooks at a set price that won't put too big a dent in your wallet, and most have thousands of titles from which to choose.

SIIA Releases Marketing Survey Results
The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) reported the findings of "The Software Division Marketing Industry Report," its annual survey of more than 100 marketing executives. Key results include the continued high use of social media in corporate marketing (92%), the increased use of mobile marketing (37%, up from 25% last year), and the increased ability to measure online marketing efforts' ROI (64%, up from 55% last year).
GPO Offers Free Ebooks
The U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) will expand its ebook program to allow free public access to titles in the GPO's Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP), a finding tool for federal historical and current publications. About 100 ebooks are now available for download, with new additions each month.
EPAM and Concurrent Collaborate on Big Data Management
EPAM, a software services and solutions provider from Central and Eastern Europe, teamed up with Concurrent, Inc., a software platform for Big Data applications. EPAM will leverage Cascading, Concurrent's open source application framework, to help companies enable faster time-to-market and deliver repeatable solutions with a standard infrastructure and flexible support for Hadoop distributions.

Sony Transitions Out of the North American Ebook Market

At 6 p.m. EST on March 20, 2014, the Sony Reader Store will close its virtual doors to customers in the U.S. and Canada. The ebook libraries for customers of Reader e-ink devices and Xperia tablets and smartphones in these countries will transfer to accounts at the Toronto-based Kobo, another ebook retailer. As a last hurrah, Sony is offering 30% off on a selection of ebooks from its store.
