I've been regularly covering news of digital textbooks for several years. It is now a market in such flux, with so many developments, startup launches, reports of research, publishing company restructuring and mergers, and more, that it warrants revisiting frequently. This is a review of some recent noteworthy developments and a discussion of a report on student acceptance.

GlobalSpec (recently acquired by IHS Inc.), a provider of digital media solutions for suppliers and distributors seeking exposure to engineering, manufacturing, and technical professionals, announced the release of Datasheets360, a comprehensive source for manufacturer datasheets and distributor pricing and availability information, searchable by partial and exact product numbers.

EveryoneOn Launches to Promote Digital Literacy

March 21, 2013 marked the launch of Everyone On—a national campaign to promote the importance of digital literacy skills and increase access to computer and internet training. People are invited to take the EveryoneOn pledge to help at least one person learn how to do something better online. Librarians take that pledge every day, and that's why public libraries have been partnering with Connect2Compete to make sure people know where to find resources in their communities.

Transparency in Government During Sunshine Week 2013

Congress was the focal point of two events during Sunshine Week 2013 (March 10-16). On March 12, the Congressional Transparency Caucus hosted an event examining recent progress concerning the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) reform. A panel of experts explored ways in which the FOIA process could be improved and government records be made more easily accessible to the public.
