While access champions are racing to put out fires set by radical legislators in the public sphere, materials bans have been smoldering in state and federal prisons for decades with little to no recourse for those adversely affected. Just as lawmakers attempt to control minors by banning what they do not wish them to know, state and federal carceral systems prioritize power and control over rehabilitation. Nowhere is this fact more obvious than in prison-sanctioned book banning.
