NewsEdge Corp., a leading provider of business news and current awareness services, has announced a partnership with Northern Light (NL), developer of the "research engine," that will provide what it calls a "new paradigm for Web information delivery" to NewsEdge customers. The NewsEdge service will provide integrated access to a co-branded site that will be powered by NL and will incorporate NL's Web searching and classification. It will also provide access to NL's Special Collection, an archive of over 6,000 business publications.NewsEdge has specialized in current awareness information, so the addition of archival material should prove a valuable enhancement for its users. Most of NL's journal titles go back to January 1995. NewsEdge also provides access to around 500 titles, versus over 6,000 in NL. So, NewsEdge benefits from being able to provide a richer product. Its customers benefit by increased access to proprietary information and powerful searching of Web content. Northern Light—and the advertisers on its site—gain an additional distribution channel, therefore reaching a new audience of highly focused business users.
"In the world of information overload, our clients are asking us to aggregate, classify, and refine an increasing breadth of content and resources. The ability of users to efficiently find, monitor, and be alerted to relevant issues and events from all sources, especially the Web, is a major productivity gain," said NewsEdge president and COO Cliff Pollan.
"The relationship with NewsEdge heralds the emergence of a new business trend, the integration and customization of news, research materials, traditional media sources, and Web content in one integrated solution," said David Seuss, Northern Light CEO. "What we're providing is a new value chain that presents customers, information providers, and advertisers with a win-win business scenario."
Leslie Ray, director of partnership marketing for Northern Light, said that NL provides a flexible platform for information commerce that can be used in a number of internal and external applications. "Partnering is an increasingly important part of our business," she said, and this new agreement with NewsEdge "fits nicely with our overall strategy."
Initially, the enhancements will be made available to NewsEdge Insight and Workgroups subscribers (existing and new) as part of their NewsEdge Insight subscriptions. Items in the NL Special Collection will be provided as a component of the NewsEdge subscription service, except for a subset that includes Investext reports, market research reports, and the WEFA database. Availability is scheduled for sometime this winter.
