eLife Will Begin Charging for Publication

eLife announced that beginning Jan. 1, 2017, it will start charging a $2,500 fee for publication in order to cover a portion of its costs. All papers submitted after this date and accepted for publication will be subject to the fee, although authors can apply for a fee waiver. Charging for publication is part of the journal’s long-term financial strategy. The Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Max Planck Society, and the Wellcome Trust will continue to provide support.
