West Group Announces WestDockets, Discontinues Gateway to CourtLink eAccess Service
West Group (http://www.westgroup.com), a Thomson business, has announced WestDockets, a new Westlaw service that provides direct access to electronic court docket materials from courts throughout the U.S. WestDockets launches with coverage of 138 federal district and bankruptcy courts, as well as the New York State Unified Court System. Many federal and state courts, including U.S. courts of appeals and U.S. courts of federal claims, will be added in the coming months, with complete federal coverage by mid-year.According to the announcement, WestDockets is a vital resource for discovering the litigation history of legal opponents or prospective clients, and it is an important tool to enhance case management, allowing users to view case status as well as fees and payment records. The new court docket service is a complement to ProLaw, the law practice management software suite with built-in Legalex Rules, which was acquired by West Group in August 2001. The West announcement came a day after news that LexisNexis CourtLink, Inc. (http://www.lexisnexiscourtlink.com) and the West Group had been unable to reach a new licensing agreement under which West would continue to offer its customers online access to state and federal court records through the CourtLink eAccess service. The West Group Gateway to the CourtLink eAccess service was officially discontinued on March 1. LexisNexis acquired CourtLink in fall 2001. Sources: West Group and LexisNexis CourtLink, Inc.
